Hello. I want to buy the new Obsidian but I want to redo the window. They sell a side panel with no window and I was going to use that.

I don't like the rivets like in my Termaltake Xaser II case. The plastic screwhead looking things all over doesn't sit well with me compared to the other mods I've seen.

I can't seem to find any window mod guides that I won't have to use rivets. I hope there is a simple solution so the window sits flush with the rest of the panel. I think the trick is making the "ledge" part where the window meets the back of the panel.

Any info would be cool.

P.S.: I have looked but I haven't found anything in the past 15 minutes. I have to go to work and hoped I could come back to so guides. I know I haven't researched long enuff so don't flame me if you find it fast. :)
 
I've taken my panel to local shops and had them make a "clean" cut in the panel. Then used 3M tape to secure the acrylic in place.
Most DIY are not clean cuts so people use rubber edging to cover up the imperfections.
That takes away from the purpose of the panel being flush to look OEM.
 
Look up MNPCtech.com on the first or 2nd page bill will show how to use 3M automotive tape to stick on the window instead of rivets.
 
You can get most materials (metal, acrylic, etc) laser cut fairly cheaply from local shops. A quick google search should show someone nearby. That way your cuts are perfectly straight, even, and no filing or sanding is required. You can even do some crazy cut outs if you like.

As for fixing the cut acrylic to the panel, I'd suggest a small amount of two-part epoxy (overlap the window a fair amount outside of the hole cut in the main panel).

By the way, where have you found the un-cut panel for the case? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

What name should I google? What are those types of shops called? I live next to Memphis and I don't think there are any of those types around here. I'm at 38017 BTW.

I actually remember a small company opening up some stores scattered around the U.S. where I think you pay something and you can have access to just about every type of hardware modding machine you can think of. I don't remember the name of the place but I remember it being on one of Digg's podcasts I think. We need something like that around here.
