I need to purchase a graphics card that will display video from 4 DVD's (at the same time) on one screen. Any suggestions?

I'm sure any mid-range card can handle that. The decompression could even be done in software.

Thanks for your input, price is not an issue, it is all about performance, why suffer for a ha'pence of tar? What brand is a 9800 Pro?

why it's ATI of course although other manufacturers do make their version of the same card. just pick the one that looks the coolest.

im still unsure why youd be watching 4 dvd's at once, my brain would melt from all that multi-tasking.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately, looks will not win the day, nobody will be allowed to see the interior of the box. And, anyway, I'm only interested in performance, the output has to be flawless, is ATI up to the challenge?

The DVDs will be of instument readouts and all 4 will be time-synched so that I can watch for cause and effects and interactions between the systems being monitored. Hence, the need for high performance. Important (costly) decisions will be made on the back of what I observe.

Well then if it's so important for you, and cost isn't an issue, I'd suggest maybe a dual monitor display and an ATI Radeon 9800 XT with some nice 256 megs of DDR ram.... mmmm my mouth waters just thinking about the dual monitor output version + all that ownage in performance.

The 9800 XT does from 5 to 10 % better performance than the 9800 pro. IF this card can't do what you need to do, NOTHING on the market can, unless perhaps you buy the ATI professional hardware, which you can check out at ATI's web site at www.ati.com.

I have never tried to use any card with 4 dvds running... so I couldn't begin to tell you what you'd need, except a large amount of ram... and dual RAMDACs (which the 9800 pro and XT both have)... I'm sure someone else out there can explain in a more detailed way, this is where my expertice wains.

Thanks for your valued input. This forum was recommended to me, and I have to admit that it is living up to it's reputation. Unfortunately, the dual monitor solution isn't an option, but I will take a look at the ATI web site.
