GTX 280 problem

when im gaming, and this happens under high stress situation, my screen turns into a mesh of different colors, and my system freezes. it has only started doing this in the past few weeks. i figure its my video card overheating, or just messed up. its one of the first series of the gtx 280 a leadtek winfast gtx 280. i know the problem isnt my cpu, cause under load it hits 45C. it COULD be that im using windows 7, but i doubt it, cause its not just on one game, this happens on 3. would an aftermarket cooler help? or is my video card just screwed?

Edit: Ok, i got counterstrike source for 5 bucks off of steam....and it does it when im watching other players as well, and thats a 4 year old game.

I had a 8800gt that did that, after about 2 weeks it just completely died while playing warhammer. First thing I would check is the temperature, play a small 3d app and see if its over heating. I have a feeling though it is dying a slow death like mine and will be completely inoperable in a week or two.
 
F***! any suggestions for a video card thats equal or better than a gtx 280 for around $200? anyone? ATI or Nvidia, im not picky
 
gtx 280 or 285 in the for sale forum is the best your going to get at the 200 mark.
