GTX 280 cooling.

I originally had a 285 in the 920 rig and at 750 core (think it was?) its exhaust would about pop popcorn at full load on the stock cooler. I believe the 280 was laid with a larger litho process than the 285 and ran even hotter. If you're going to OC it that accelero is an excellent cooler. I've used them and can't think of anything better for that price.

That said, I'd only run the 280s if you already have them or are getting them extremely cheap. They're DX9 cards, and there's low power/heat DX11 options nowadays that would equal or better the performance of SLI 280s for not too much cash.

280s are DX10 cards

OP, i would recommend sticking with a blower cooler for SLI'd cards so it wont just blow the heat on to the other card and around your case..
You can reapply better Thermal paste for better heat transfer though.
 
Also a high RPM 120 or 140mm if its possible in the front of the cards pushing the air to out back of the case, also i'll keep bit fresh ur cards...
 
You're seriously going to buy a 45$ cooler for a card that sells for around 60$ on eBay?

I kind of have to agree with this sentiment.

The GTX 280 was a hell of a card.... hell even my own thermonuclear GTX 280 is still kicking ass and taking names today. But the card just isn't worth spending that kind of money on an extra cooler when it sells for chump change on the used market.

Just leave the original cooler on them and run them in SLI, they were designed with tolerances to run incredibly hot anyway.
 
OP I was kinda trying to be nice, but the peanut gallery called me on it and they're right.

If price is an issue, keep the 90, save up another 90, and get something like a gtx660 for ~$180. DX11, about equivalent or better performance as both those 280s, and WAY less heat and power. You'll turn your room into a sauna with those things.

Yes, exactly.

I have two GTX 280s and two GTX 480s in the same room, and the window cannot ever be closed without the air conditioner on.
 
Running sli here with stock coolers.......keep it clean and temps won't be a problem....and imo the stock cooler is better suited for sli
 
a single 680 is crap. id only get a 680 if I was putting 2 or 3 of them in Sli. for a video editing machine ;)
 
If money is not a problem, get rid from that hot, power hungry, DX10 card and get GTX670/680 etc.
I think its not worth to spend money for that cards.
try to sale gtx280 and go for new one.

I wouldn't invest in another 280. You should consider taking a look at upgrading,
