The crew at TechnologyX has posted a GTA V performance testing article today that is certainly worth checking out. For funsies, you can see our single GPU testing article here and our multi-GPU write-up here.

We’ve spent a great deal of time here at Technology X testing a variety of different hardware on this game. We go through lengths to come up with every different type of test we could to get an idea of what makes a difference in this game.

Going from the G3258 @ 4.2 to the 4690K @ 4.3 doubled their frame rate.
The 4690K + 750 combo was about 20% faster than the 8350 + 7870.

Nothing out of the ordinary.

so no reaL ASTRONOMICAL Improvements from a i5 4690k and a X99 5960x in terms of raw performance increases.

Nothing out of the ordinary. 4690k remains one of the best gaming CPUs for the money, and any CPUs higher than this you start paying for pretty much placebo, looking strictly from performance point of view.

That being said, at least the lower clocked Extremes are not losing to the i5's, which is a good thing.

So this game definitely uses 4 threads and uses them well, as can be seen comparing the two core G3258 vs 4 core 4690k.

Does this game use more than 4 cores? All 4 physical cores on my i7 are maxed out. Finally, Rockstar has done a fantastic job with this game. So far without having to do any texture upgrades at all, everything looks great; the buildings, the lighting, realism, vegetation, even the clothes and pedestrians. And the vehicle handling is far better without the necessity of a manual tuning as with GTA IV.

Core i3 competing with FX chips, and the Haswell i5 handily beating them:
That's pretty much all games in a nutshell, though.
Some people argue it's better to buy an i3 than a similarly-priced FX chip for gaming rigs.

Blah blah DX12 multithreading.
