Gsync & FreeSync TVs (ever a possibility?)

That's not deliberate foot dragging. Asus, Acer, etc all announced 4k 120 HDR monitors last spring built around prototype panels from AUO with a mid summer ETA based on when AUO said they'd be transitioning to volume manufacture of the panel. Based on the latest slip of the release date, AUO still hasn't been able to solve whatever the showstopper problem has been preventing them from actually starting volume production of the panel. Some part of doing so (I'm guessing the 384 zone HDR) has proven difficult enough industry wide that none of the other panel makers (eg Samsung, LG, etc) have spoken publicly about such a design in their product lineups.

Yeah but the HDR panels are another story. There does seem to have been some kind of foot dragging/fuck up around 4k+120hz in general. I mean DP 1.3 is a standard from 2014 that allows 4k120hz, but afaik no one ever built a DP1.3 monitor, and we're already on DP1.4, which has also never been built. And we do know that lots of LCD panels, including many/most TVs and possibly nearly ALL current LCD panels, support and even sometimes natively(in the case of TV panels) run at 120hz. The issue does not seem to be panel response times or supported refresh rates.

Really, I think what happened is that monitor sales were good enough as is, and they realized they could bleed people for 1080p shit for another year. Always assume the worst with this industry. It's just pure scum.

You're absolutely right. The industry would be insane to risk the pennies they're getting from low margin commodity 1080p displays by launching new halo products that they can sell at high margins for orders of magnitude more profit. /s

You're a fool if you think the margins are low on $400 displays with zero QC.

Not really. G-Sync is Nvidia's proprietary tech so at the moment only supported by PC GPUs and maybe possible on the Nintendo Switch. HDMI Variable Refresh Rate would be something that could work on current gen consoles with a software patch and a similar software patch to HDTVs. It would be a huge help for consoles since they typically have sub-60 fps framerates anyway so reductions in input lag and improvements in smoothness at varying framerates would be welcome.

1080p shit?

1080p is all I could ever need at 24-27" (more so at 24"). And I do not want a monitor bigger than 24". With that, 1080p is great and anything more is a waste of resources. My gtx1060 is a good card but not for 1440p... It's a huge shame that great quality 1080p lcd monitors never existed and we just skipped to 4k oled tv's...
 
Biggest issue is g-sync uses a chip and freesync uses software so doubt ever have monitor that is both.
