It seems that fake greeting cards are the new way to spread viruses via e-mail.

On average, the company sees about 700,000 virus-laden e-mails per day around the globe. This week, there have been as many as 35 million in a single day because of the spike in e-card spam, said Adam Swidler, a senior vice president of Postini.

I concur. Over the past two weeks I can attribute greeting card spam for nearly half of my junk mail.

The funny part about these messages are often the subject line: a neighbor has sent you a greeting card, or a family member has sent you a greeting card. How did they know he/she was family? Was there a checkbox: mark if you are friend, family, relative, neighbor, church, pet.

Only a completely brain-dead recipient would actually be fooled by these messages. I would write more, but my sister just sent me a greeting card, and I haven't heard from her in years!
