Feel free to correct me....

Reading on up various graphics cards and their bench marks. I decided to pick up a GTX 950SC EVGA. Went on and play some games....humm not sure what is going on. I suspect manufactures are trying to humm...repeat the process of selling graphics cards that was manufactured back in 2010. Here for example, GTX480...that card was the bomb! Long story short, I ended up putting back in my GTX480 sli and took the GTX950 back for a refund.

I don't know everything regarding video cards, but in real life gaming ...my gtx does 30 to 45 FPS in ARMA 3, where the GTX 950 does 18 to 22FPS. Can anyone explain the missing piece for my logic of understanding why a GTX950 1202 mhz GPU is slower than my GTX480 700mhz GPU?

A lot of things that go into the manufacturing of a GPU affect its performance. What did you read, exactly, when you made your decision? Looking at performance metrics a GTX 950 is only marginally faster than a single GTX 480. Having two of the latter in SLI are going to significantly outperform the former in games with good multicard scaling.

In the future I would refer to this GPU hierarchy. As it says at the very top you should aim for a video card that is at least three tiers higher than your current card. I would go four tiers higher if you want to go from 2-way SLI to a single card. So looking at this chart it would really only be worth it for you to go with a GTX 970 or RX 480

Desktop GPU Performance Hierarchy Table.

You're comparing the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel of last year to the top-of-the-line SLI setup from a couple years ago. The 480 is old, but it was a powerhouse when it came out. And you've got TWO of them.

The 480 and 950 alone would probably be fairly close in most benchmarks...but a pair of 480's vs a single 950? No contest.

go to gpuboss.com and do a comparison before buying a new card. a 950 isnt any better than a 480.
