hey guys its about that time for me to upgrade GPU's im looking at the 970 but i would also like some more information so heres my current rig

i73820 @ 4.2ghz
8gb rip jaw ram
xfx 7970 stock clock
1900x1200 resolution

the 7970 isnt a bad performer by any means and still holds its own on most the games i play but im always in search for the bigger and better.

how much performance increase will i see on the 970 vs the 7970 as well as power consumption differences?

second whats the big selling point on the 980 vs the 970 its my understanding the 970 can be OC'd on air cooling to match the 980 in gaming so why get a 980 vs the 970?

7970 = 280X and I believe the 280X will be about 30-40% slower than the 970 and uses a little more power. Actually just look at the charts in the review http://www.anandtech.com/show/8568/the-geforce-gtx-970-review-feat-evga/6

The 970 can be OC'd to match the 980 at stock... the 980 can also be OC'd. You're paying about 50% more for a 980 to get around 20% more performance. The 970 has fantastic value right now with similar performance to the 290X and 780ti, but at much lower prices than either were a month ago. You should notice the difference from a 7970.

the answer to every video card upgrade question for the forseeable future (or until Nvidia realizes how much they are under-cutting every other video card in existence, including their own) is the GTX 970

yea i just dont see justification on spending the extra money on a 980 at this point in time, if it was a major significance maybe 30-40% it would be more valuable to me, the 970 is a lot of power for price and i know thats been said a lot and the charts and reviews just prove that

to add to that how could anyone consider an R9 290 at this point, i have been loving AMD cards for a while now but the price doe not scale with the performance and it seems more games cater to nvidia with driver performance etc. looks like its time for a switch back no nvidia cards and the 970 looks like a great choice when it becomes in stock lol

nobody actually can consider a 290X with the 970 out there at that price/performance.. which its superior to the 290X and overclocked.. well, thats another history.. people with 290 and 290X are just doing 2 things.. first one dumping out those cards and switching, buying a second cheap card to Xfire..

Talking about a 290...that's a paddling. Looking at the 290X...that's a paddling. Staring at the 280X...that's a paddling. Thinking about the 980...ooh, you better believe that's a paddling.

You want the 970.
