One of my friends just built a computer a few days ago and it had been working fine up until today. He is getting corruption that looks like this -

He said the card tops out at about 54c so i dont think it overheated... He is on 11.7 drivers and has a 600w corsair PSU. Anything else that can cause this than the GPU?

He said windows went into sleep mode for the first time today - i was downloadin stuff while i was at work and that powered down the whole shebang fans 'n all. I wonder if it didn't sit there for eight hours getting catastrophically overheated.

is that even a possibility lol
 
vid card is dying probably, i remember my 8800gt was doing that before it turned into a turd. Definitely exploited the corruption in cs, player models were sticking out of corners and poking through walls lol.
 
Happens sometimes, had a friend a couple years ago with two bum 8800GT's in a row, I had a powercolor 4850 and its RMA replacement die within a week or two of installation. The 2nd powercolor card failed in the middle of a game to a black screen, which at first I mistook for it going to sleep unexpectedly. It never recovered though, I could boot up through post into windows and never get anything on the display. Usually when stuff like that happens I first run through every setting in the drivers and game in case I flipped a switch I should have or something, that failing, I do a video driver> game> windows reinstallation and hope whatever went wrong was just a software issue. Once that's been ruled out, time to RMA that video card.
 
alright thanks for the info. ive never had gpu trouble with the 8 or so computers ive built so i just wanted to get some more opinions
