So I have a pair of XFX 6870 2gb's in XFire. MSI Afterburner has GPU2's usage sitting at 99% while sitting on the desktop. GPU1 shows basically 0 with an occasional little spike. What would cause this. Also the fan speed doesnt slow down to match GPU1 even when the temps are similar.

GPU2 Behavior in Crossfire

Do you have the latest 12.3 drivers? They cause some crazy idle clock speeds. If so revert back to 12.2 drivers or something else that you know worked.

Just set this up yesterday so I have 12.3 I will find & install 12.2 tonight.

Well 12.2 did not fix the issue. But odly enough it corrected itself after running windows update.
Now if I could just get furmark to use the 2nd card. Trying to properly test.

Edit: Nevermind.. I didn't check the box... It worked fine.. Though the 1st card got up to 94 degrees.. That seems a bit on the warm side.
ok this is dumb.. Was working fine. Then I go take a shower with the system on (not running anything graphics wise) and come back & GPU2 is at 99% usage when sitting at idle at my desktop. This is very not cool.. No literally its not cool because its hot doing that.
Edit. So here is a screenie from afterburner.. The high period for GPU1 is I started & let one fo the 3dmark11 benchmarks run for a little bit & then exited.. You can see that GPU 2 wasnt happy, but then calmed down after running the benchmark.. WTF

I had a similar issue and it seems as though others are. When you change drivers make sure the previous ones are all gone. I would go to like 12.1 or even earlier drivers to see if it helps cause 6 series has been out for awhile.
Someone said opening and closing a 3d application as you did will make the problems stop till the next boot up. It was also suggested to use internet explorer for a browser to see of that helps.
