Hi Guys,

Just looking for some advice on an an upgrade for my GPU.

My current system specs are:

Asus P5K Premium - Black Pearl Edition
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - G0 Stepping
8 GB Corsair XMS2 - CM2X2048-6400C5
Corsair HX 650 PSU
Corsair H50-1 CPU Cooler
BFG GTX 260 OCX GPU
Asus Xonar DX 7.1 Soundcard
Samsung F1 - 1TB HDD
Windows 7 (64 bit) OS

My GTX 260 OCX runs o.k, although I feel I could do with a boost in games such as BF BC2.

Would a 5850 be a good upgrade, or would waiting for the 6000 series of cards be a wiser move? I do have a chance of getting a GIGABYTE GV-R585D5-1GD-B for £145 (inc shipping)...but I'm just not sure tbh.

Any advice would be much appreciated :)

Thanks.

5850 would be a solid upgrade, and that seems like a pretty solid price. However, unless AMD really gouges on prices, if you can wait a month or so, a 6770 would probably be a better option if it matches what all of the rumors are saying. I'd wait just because prices should drop at that time and you should be able to get one or the other for a better price/$ than you can now.

No, you're not blind...I just forgot to list my monitor specs :)

Currently have a Samsung SM226BW (1680 X 1050), although will probably upgrade to a 24" screen at some point (not sure which one yet though).

well you certainly need to oc that cpu if you want to get the most out of a 5850 especially at just 1680.
