GPU stress tester?

I am building a new rig soon, and I'm interested in overclocking my Video card. I will be getting a 5850 with the stock cooler. I want to get the highest overclock, but without any artifacts or extremely high temps(obviously). I also don't want to reduce the lifespan of this card too much, because I won't be upgrading for a while. I will be getting the Corsair 750w modular PSU. What would be the best program to stress a GPU for stability? I would like it to be free. Also what program would you recommend to overclock a GPU. Thanks.
 
Furmark is a popular stress tester, but if you use it, keep an eye on your temps as it's pretty much built to push your card to the limit (and then some).
 
I'd be careful about using GPU stress tester programs. Especially Furmark has been known to actually ruin people's cards. Probably just as well to just run Crysis (or any other GPU-heavy game )and check for artifacts while keeping an eye on your temps. More realistic too, since many of these programs heat the cards far more than any game will.
 
Do you have any games? I've not seen anything get my cards hotter than getting in a jungle in Crysis. This tends to max temps on my CPU and GPU, higher than any stress or benchmark tools I have seen.
 
You can set Vantage to run a set of benchmarks over and over. Also, you can run the Crysis Warhead benchmark or the Far Cry 2 benchmark over and over. There's also a GPU stress tester from ATI as well, I believe.
