Yeah, since I have my 4850 in a Sonata III case (with a front fan installed), I've VERY tight on space. I was hesitant to buy the 5850, even though the difference was just 1/4 inch...but the 5770 is really no significant performance improvement, so I couldn't go with that.
Instead, I opted for the GTX 460, which is 8.25 inches long. It also has the exact same power draw at load as the 4850, if you buy the 768MB model. My order should arrive today, so I can post comparison pics.

As promised, here is my release stock 4850 side-by-side with the stock GTX 460. And I thought the 4850 was small - the GTX 460 is really tiny!
The only downside is the GTX 460 is a dual-slot card. But that shouldn't be a problem unless you're putting this into a SFF case.

It's refreshing to see a mid-range video card that actually fits inside mid-range cases.
I got the Gainward GTX460 which is only 7.4". It's absolutely tiny compared to the 4850 I was using before, which required me to jam the card right against the hard drive. I don't care if the card is 5 slots wide - I don't really need to plug anything into the other slots and I'm not planning on running SLI/Crossfire. I do however plan to keep using hard drives. They can come in quite handy, you know.
I think video card companies have just been lazy, slapping a low-end or mid-range GPU on to the same reference PCB as the highest-end model. Maybe they realized they are losing sales because of this?
