GPU or CPU upgrade for SW:TOR

Hello all, been posting a bit lately. I have a GTX 460 786 MB version and run star wars on completely low settings because higher is such a strain. Although ad many know, WoW was more forgiving and I played nearly max. My question is, is star wars more GPU or CPU dependent? I have a Athlon II X2 250. Been getting mixed emotions about the subject and wanted to know the absolute bottom line thanks in advance.

Probably gonna need both really. But I would say a better processor would definitely give you a good bump in performance. Depending on your resolution of course because a GTX460 786MB aint too shabby a card but its going to struggle at 1920x1080 and above with the more demanding games.

It would help us to know what your motherboard is (to determine what CPU upgrade is possible) and the resolution you're using.

On first glance, however, I agree with MacLeod that you may need both regardless.

A GTX 470 768MB video card should be able to play that game at 1680x1050 in mostly high settings at 40+ FPS ... so I'd say you need to upgrade the CPU, though in doing so you'll probably need to upgrade the motherboard, which means the RAM needs to be upgraded as well, then hopefully all your optical and hard drives are SATA or you'll need to upgrade those as most new motherboard have eliminated PATA connections.

So as tiraides said, what resoultion are you gaming at?
What is your budget?
What PSU are you using?

I've seen claims of ~50 FPS with maximum detail, no AA, at 1680x1050 with a 1GB version of the 460 and I don't think the RAM is maxed out at that resolution, so the 768 should be good to go.

My current computer is centered around this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883114091

PSU: 1000 watt PSU (will transfer over to newer computer whenever I build)
Ramm: added 4 gigs so a total of 7
Gpu: GTX 460 786mb

I already know the gains that Intel will give me, I was thinking of swapping over but will most likely have to swap everything except PSU, gpu, and hard and optical drives. Im will to spend around 300-450 roughly maybe more depending on how much I get paid soon. Maybe more.

I want to max out this game, also render computer animation programs, video edit as well. Thoughts? Might be asking too much lol

Resolution is 1920*1080. I'm playing on my 1080p 32 inch LCD TV

I played on a q6600 and 8800gt 512mb just fine. Low settings but 1920x1080 if that helps.

The Intel would give you a boost over your current processor but not over something like a X6 or high clocked X4. For a single card system running at 1920x1080 or below, an upper end AMD proc will be enough to let your GPU fully stretch its legs. For multi GPU systems and/or higher resolutions, the Intel would really start to pull ahead.

If you could drop $350, you could get a Phenom II X4 960T for $110 and a XFX 6950 for $240 (plus a $30 mail in rebate) and youd have an extremely capable rig that will handle anything on the market at 1920x1080 and should be able to get them all at max settings as well.

You could always go with a Powercolor 6870 for $168 (plus $20 mail in rebate). That would still be a very capable rig that will play anything but youll have to turn down a setting or two on the really demanding games like Crysis and Metro.

Thanks for the responses guys. I was thinking phenom x4 also. Might just go for it. I heard no games fully use all 4 processors, but if I'm rendering I'm sure it would. So the decision lies between X4 and X6
