GPU issues with x16 PCIe riser cards?

While doing some googling for a new build, I came across the posts of some people who had issues with a high-end GPU when employing an PCIe x16 riser card. My question is whether anyone here has used such a riser card with a reasonably high-end card (list model, please), and whether this gave any issues. Also please detail whether you use a PCB or flexible riser.

Thanks in advance :)

PCIe is a very high-speed bus - tacking an extender onto the end of that bus is likely to cause problems with the signal. This wasn't an issue with old PCI, which ran at much slower rates, but with a bus as fast as PCIe, it's hard to guess what will happen.

You're just going to have to try it and see if it works. Unless you can find a motherboard explicitly designed to work with the PCIe riser, I don't think you have a good chance.

Interesting results, daller. Thanks for reporting :)

I suspected such a thing would happen. Somewhat of a shame, though. Would be nice for tiny case mods if risers worked with high-end cards :(
