This is a dumb question that I am willing to ask and others might not, so I am asking for those that might not 
If I have 2 x 9800GX2 in a rig and they are sitting idle (no GPU2 client running), will it still need as much electricity as when it is running full bore? Short of taking them out of the boxen, how can I best reduce the electrical footprint of these?
Obviously the heat is reduced as well and part of what I am going for. There is obviously still some heat even at idle, but it should be reduced significantly.
Thoughts? I am thinking of replacing the 3 x 9800GX2 with an i7 930 as it will cover any production lost and reduce power needs and heat output. The sale of the 9800GX2's would help fund the cost of the next i7 build. The reduction in electrical costs will definitely help to fund the SR-2.
