Some what disapointed, cuz frys was sold out of BFG 6800's for 250, so I got a BFG 6600GT.
I game at either 1024x768 or 1200x900, depending on what the game supports, so I don't think the difference will be that big, cept like in doom 3, and other real GPU intensive tests.
Can't use it till the 9th(bday) so I'll give my review on what I think of the dark side then.
Also got a noisetaker 420 watt and a SI-97 to go with those, so I can OC my 2500+ to decent levels, max oc is 2ghz atm with stock fan and 350 watt off brand psu.
No more 8500:)
How much can a I sell a 8500 64MB for anyway?

You should take it to 1280x1024 as it will run faster than your old card did at every resolution and add AA and AF to it.

highest I can go(at 75hz) is 1200x900.. which I recently discovered.
I'm hoping also the 6600GT will have less texture aliasing than the 8500(even without SSAA) because in games which appear to have either negative, or very low LOD, like neverwinter nights and UT2004, and serious sam(not that I play it, but it has really sharp textures, doto lod), the aliasing is quite horrible.
Might that be because the 8500 does biliniear filtering and other filterting tricks?

wow, congrats on teh new card.... a 8500 to a 6600gt... wow, what a big performance jump your gonna see!! enjoy!

Ya, mainly being able to use anti aliasing now(I use 16AF in every game).
NWN gives my 8500 a hard time with more than a few monsters on the screen, and richard burns rally gets a bit laggy.
Other games I dont play(doom 3) or just will be able to use AA.
Any reviews of the 6600GT have 8X aa benchmarks, at 1024 with screen shots?

Do you mean 1280x960 instead of 1200x900? I am just wondering, cause I've never heard of 1200x900.

Nope.
1200x900.jpg

Like I said, I recently discovered(last few weeks) that res.
Nice.. almost 1280x960 but my monitor can do it at a decent refresh rate.
monitor is a freebie(from in laws, traded montors, cuz gave me a monitor from work and it broke) viewsonicE771.
Compared to the impression 7 series I had before, it isn't quite as sharp.

.. install the monitor drivers and you can get more out of it...

for best quality filtering quality on the 6600GT, install the 67.03 drivers, set Perfomance and Quality to "High Quality," then under Advanced Performance Options, set Negative LOD Bias to "Clamp." Using these settings aren't nearly as fast as the defaults, though.

It could be that the 8500 can't support any higher resolutions at that hz? I don't know much about the 8500 series personally but it could be something to look into. This is also, might I add, why I bought a refurbished Sony Trinitron 21inch crt monitor, this mofo was $200+40 for a 2 year replacement warranty. It rocks and I won't ever get a different monitor if possible, till those damned LCD's come down in price and down in response time as well (ghosting  ). I can go up to 16x12 @ 85hz  .... it's just such a good product, I can't believe they stopped making them!

Ive got the same proc, psu, and heatsink... you will love them all.. the noisetaker is very quiet in comparison to the Antec 430w True I had befor it and that heatsink with the quiet panaflow fan dropped my temps down a solid 6C over the sink I had (aerocool). Fry's has the 6600GT AGP?

what are you guys talking about?
The 8500 has a 400mhz ramdac.
This monitor is a pos.. at 1280x1024(or 960) it will only do 60 hz.
There's no problem with it at 1200x900- works great at 75 hz.
I also have installed the monitor drivers before, and didn't add anything.
Yes, frys has the 6600AGP, I think they had a few other brands besides BFG also.

well
it was just a suggestion.. my viewsonic 19inch a90f does 1734x1323 or something like that, but it doesn't without the drivers installed...

Those viewsonics are just nasty, I don't think I'd take one free, sadly.

Sell it and buy a new one if you have any human decency left. :p  :D

What's so bad about it?
Only complaint is the low res.. but for a 17", it's fine.
My brothe rin law has a 19" HP, and that thing is nasty- the colors are totally off, no matter what temp you set it to.

Well as you said they aren't very sharp (picture wise) and the hz are below average for their higher than 1024by768 resolutions which is junk.

Ya, but 1280x960 is way to small for a 17"

Really? I never thought so, I had a CRT that I consistently ran at 1280x1024 and it wasn't small enough.

You like small things then:p
1200x900 is pushing it for the smalless of things- I turn on high res fonts in neverwinter nights(mods) so I can see em good, and so they look better.
