I just went from a P4 3.4EE to a Q6600. Words cannot describe the difference. I'm installing 3 different games at once with no hiccup. I haven't even began to overclock. I'm amazed, simply....amazed.
 
One time I opened two instances of MS Calculator and I did addition on one and multiplication on the other, something that would instantly fry any single core CPU. To my amazement, both expressions were calculated simultaneously and I was like :eek:.
 
Now u can surf on 4 different web pages ! :D

jk... great cpu, going to a quad (if i can find a 9450 cheap enough) myself :)

none of you are going to beat the jump I experience when I upgrade from my current Athlon XP to the mature Nehalems in Q2 '09 :)


yes I'm seiously seriously waiting that long.... college must end b4 I upgrade :)
 
I went from AXP to an E6300 (then X3210), and it was quite nice. :)

Looking for Nehalem later though!

Because of money issues, or distraction factor? I'm currently waiting to upgrade until spring break hits so I'm not distracted during finals, hah.
 
i could easily afford a system, so yea, I guess it *is* a distraction thing.... and I just dont have any use for a faster system ATM. The only PC game I play is Team Fortress 2, which is just fine on this system....

but yea, I am still looking forward to a new system in abt a year and a half :) (maybe even later after my parents stop helping me pay the rent for my apartment)....
 
If there are any guys here that upgraded to the Q6600 from a dual core conroe Id love to hear if you can tell a difference in gaming. Deciding if the jump to a quad from my FX-60 would be better that a jump to a duo.
 
I moved from my Opty 165 (AMD) to Q6600 over the weekend and it's like night and day. I can install multiple programs at once and even my downloading seems faster. for gaming though, stick with dual core for now. more bang for your buck. For multi tasking, quad ftw.

Soooo, should I stop putting off my upgrade? Is that what you are all telling me? My K2 133 has served me well.....

Not really
went from an e4400 @ 3.2Ghz to a q6600 @ 3ghz , cant tell any difference in gaming, but i do in everything else i do.
 
Nobody will beat my upgrade from Pentium 4 Willamette 1.5GHz, 256MB PC133 SDRAM, GeForce 2 MX440, 40GB IDE HDD to a new Q9300, 8800GTS, 4GB rig!

My current system is even older. And I am waiting for Nehalem.
