my mobo is vcore locked, and I'm looking for some vcore utilities. Any recommendations?
 
hmmm, if I understand what you are wanting to do....

If you cant change it in the bios I doubt the board has the ability to change the Vcore via software. I think you are out of luck unless there is a hardware modification for you board and even then you could not change it thru software.

just saw your other post, now I am confused. at least I know you are using a mATX msi nforce 2 board.

Yes your temps are little high, pull the top off the case and blow a fan in there and see if you can get through 3D mark.

stock AMD heatsink ?

Nah, Thermaltake silentboost. Temperature is not an issue because the CPU overheating mechanism shuts down the computer to let it cool off, rather than just restart it. I've just gotten through 3Dmark once at 180 fsb, so I'll Prime95 it tonight and see if its stable.

I should probably clear up my position. I've been oc'ing my 2500+ using as you said an nforce2 mobo. Apparently the mobo is also vcore blocked. I didn't think much of it because my vcore readings with every program (ncluding the bios) is listed at 1.70 instead of the default 1.65. With this in mind, I was wondering how far I can OC my cpu.

I got to a modest 2.01ghz (183fsb) when I ran into issues with stability (see my instability post). I would think that 2.01ghz is pretty low to be already running unstable at 1.7V at the chip, so right now I'm asking for ways to get around my mobo vcore lock to up my voltage to maybe 1.75 so I can keep pushing my 2500+.

You've said that this may very well be impossible: Being the stupid guy I am, I'm thinking about trying this, even though I dont know my way around a mobo as far as individual resistors and capacitors go.

yep, thats the hardware mod thing I mentioned. You need to find where someone did a mod for your board as that is for the ECS K7A board. I would find the MSI forums and ask for a hardware Vcore mod for your model number board. I bet someone has done it, finding them is the problem.

tend to agree with you on the overclock should be some more there.
hmm memory been validated to 220MHz on another system so running memtest wont help, Probally cant loosen timings anyway as again no detailed settings in bios. Well keep in mind heat can affect a lot of things other than the cpu while still causing the cpu to crash but I tend to agree with you, more Vcore would likely get you some more MHz.
 
I did a goggle on "K7N2GM2 Vcore" and found a german site (forum in english) that has some modded bios. trouble is I am not sure if that is your board. They confirm that one cannot add voltage selection if its not in the original bios however they have some modded bios that might help with overclock, and one guy mentioned doing a hardware Vcore mod but doesnt give details of exactly how he did it. Try goggle with you motherboard model number and Vcore and vmod and see what you find. good luck.

Ok just so you know. Athlon XP CPU's do not have a thermal shutdown integrated in the CPU. ONLY ATHLON64 and FX CPU have this feature. Next there is a OC utillity that will help you its called ClockGen. it runs in windows. You could try it to see if it will help you. there is also [H]ard mods that invole soldering an adjustable pot to the actual board but you need to be pretty experineced in most of these mods. and as above was mentioned look fo a modded bios BUT be very careful it doesnt take much to kill your rig!!!!

At 180fsb I've just run the prime95 cpu torture test for 8 hours with no stability problems, so I think I've found my computer's limit at the present voltage. I guess the test also helped my as5 I installed earlier this week, as I've knocked off 4C from my temperatures.

I use clockgen for my fsb oc'ing but it won't let me change the voltages.

As far as my OCing mod, If I had to choose between a risky hardware calibration and an obscure german hacked bios (which I would not be certain is even for my mobo), I would have to go with the hardware :). I'll be sure ask around at the msi forums-I doubt that there is a nother MSI bios coming out for this mobo, as the last update was 8-04.
