Good standalone mic

I'm looking to get myself a fat new pair of Audio Technicas come next wage, but I spend a fair bit of time using VOIP. Consequently, I'm after a decent standalone mic - I say decent because though I can get hold of a cheap one easily, it's a pain to set up well and I want something that'll last - and don't know where to start.

Anyone know if there are any magic boom mics that can clip onto any heaphone and also be excellent sound quality? That'd be favourite.
