good solid speakers?

Wow, those sure do look nice, but so does a Lion right before it rips off your head for lunch.

I'm sure it sounds ok. Just not as good as others can be. It's 65$ and for the price I'm sure it sounds fine.

It would probably sound like crap compared to a klipsch ultra 5.1 or a logitech z5500 but its all relative.

My pc speaker system makes the ultra and z5500 sound like crap too.

Then again, others have speakers (upwards of $5k) that make mine crap too.
 
For your budget you really should be looking at headphones and not speakers. If you are dead set on getting speakers I would recomend getting a 2.1 set instead of a 5.1 set.
 
$100 could buy you a solid set of headphones, but since you mentioned speakers, you'd do best with a used or refurbished set of speakers. Specifically, I'd recommend the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 or the Monsoon PlanarMedia 14.
 
I agree. If you want to have superior audio at that price (or similar to it), do as the others suggested and go for a good solid 2.1 system. Perhaps something along the lines of the klipsch 2.1 or so.

You want to start with the poor high frequency response and work our way down to the boomy sub that has very poor extension?
Lets not forget the utter lack of detail while we are at it.
If you want a bunch of loud sloppy mid-bass by all means have at the X-530's.
If you want sound balance run run run run away :D

I hate to keep banging the gong but as has been said already....in that price range you can settle for one of two things.
Mediocre 5.1 speakers or decent 2.1 speakers.
For me it's an easy choice, I will take quality over quantity any day. :)
 
I"ve seen promedia 2.1 on ebay for 80-100 bucks with like 30 shipping
I am thinking of gettin them myself
does anyone know of any speakers better than the pro medias for this price range?
 
Better? I know for a fact that the Altec Lansing MX5021 is preferred by some over the promedias.
 
hmm now i dont know which ones to look at, i know someone that has the pro medias that i can go listen to but not the ALTEC LANSING MX5021 2.1 is there a big difference with these two speaker sets?
 
Big difference? The Altec have better mids than the promedias do. However, some might feel that the promedia horns' efficiency and overall treble energy makes it a better speaker overall.

You have to listen to both before deciding.
 
The Chaintech AV-710 offers damn good 2-channel output for a very low price (now $25+$2 s/h). For two-channel audio, it is the best bang/buck card. You can route the sound through channels 7&8, which are driven by a (comparatively) excellent Wolfsen DAC.

Regarding speakers, just get the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 set.

Go to Dell.com, search on "Promedia 2.1", use a coupon for %20 off accessories (found in this thread).

If you willing to save up for a solid purchase you will not regret.. I would def go with the
Z-680's. For the *price* I believe they are the best speakers on the market.
 
My suggestion is to get a 99.99 USD refurbished Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 :D
 
for $100, I have to admit, my Creative Inspire 7700 7.1's are really nice.. Suprisingly nice.. have great bass response, and can hit high's very well too.. not too bad on the mid's either.. plus having 7.1's is always nice if you sound card can support it.. Coupled with my audigy 2 zs, I can't complain at all.. Other than the price creative charges for stands for them though.. ;) bastards cost more than the speakers for a set of 4.. LOL
