good processor?

i want a processor to last me a year or two thats somewhat decent in speeds, can u tell me if this is a good processor? http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-197 my budget is $300. i coulda gone with the 3.4 but it's the 32 bit series and not the 64 bit, does that make a big difference or will it much in the future? or is it just the same getting the 3.2 with 2 mb l2 cache that has the 64 bit on it. i'm a noob so go easy on me >.<
 
If you want to stay intel and have it last you the next 2 years the processor you posted the link to would be a very good choice. You would be able to go to 64bit when Windows XP-64 is released, although it will be slighly slower than a AMD64 in 64bit. But I think that that CPU would be a nice choice, unless you don't mind waiting until the summer for the dual-cores.
 
I just wrapped a system around that particular chip over the weekend. My system's slightly crippled by the CD-ROM being on the Primary IDE chain right now, but overall it's a nice system!

My original intention was to make an AMD 3200+ system, but AMD is introducing the Venice core soon, but not soon enough. That, and all the problems I am seeing with the nForce4 and KT890 chipsets brought me to the Intel side this time. :)
