I have been looking to replace my aging Razor headset (very old one, can't recall name). Which is connected to the motherboards sound card (Realtek).

I am so confused with the latest headset technology and despite having good knowledge of almost every component on the PC, I fail so miserably when it comes to sound.

Therefore, this is what I am thinking to get in terms of expectations:

- Reliable wireless: No compromise compared to wired. If there is, please tell me what I should worry about. Note that I use a Xbox wireless controller and have my GSM nearby most of the time.

- Surround Sound: Not sure how good that is on a headset vs stereo, but if can be obtained, why not!

- USB vs normal Sound card input: Should I worry about this?

- Noise cancellation and other new headset tech stuff. Should I care?

- Usage: youtube, Gaming (heavy, almost every genre), movies...etc.

I know it seems I might be asking to be spoon fed but I assure you I have tried to look into this many times. I come out confused more than ever.

Money no objection but good to have multiple choices if the prices vary so much with smaller differences that I might not care about.

I have a Logitech G930. It worked great for almost a year, I'm about to send it in for a free repair as I get random static and the battery doesn't hold as much of a charge anymore. Luckily the batteries are user replaceable and under $12 from Amazon. Great sounding, durable, great range (at least 50 feet through 4-5 walls) and they are comfortable wearing for long periods of time.

In most cases this shouldn't make much difference. If you have a high-end soundcard like an X-Fi or Soundblaster-Z, they will have advanced features for the microphone which will only be usable if you are using the analog microphone input into the soundcard.

If you use USB, you're essentially using a small built-in USB soundcard, with a completely different feature-set, and different if any advanced features. If you're just looking for basic Mic input, then it won't matter, but any advanced features you plan to use, just know that it will be tied to the input you use (USB vs analog into a soundcard)
