I'm looking for a good Digital camera for around $100. I only have a few fairly generic requirements

Must take SDHC memory cards
Must be tripod mountable
Must have remote-control (can be cable control, IR, etc, dont care, 3rd-part hardware is fine too here)
Must be a minimum of 6MP
Must have a battery capable for 100 shots or more (or have an option for disposable AA-etc batteries)
Must have a LCD preview (preferably with a separate optical through-the-lens viewfinder, but I can live without this)

Beyond this I don't really know or care. I would like a low-light mode if possible, but it's not a requirement same with a fast-action mode. I would like lens threads so I Can add telephoto lens, macro lens, etc, but again not required.

I've dropped out of cameras for so long that the only one I know are good are selling for $500+ so... any advice is appreciated GREATLY!

Thanks!

Well your requirements could have been met until you started talking about interchangeable lenses. Before that a point and shoot camera would have met your needs, as soon as you talk about interchangeable lenses you're more or less stepping into SLR territory. You're either going to have to save up, not have interchangeable lenses, or purchase something that is very outdated (or some combination of these traits.) One other thing to mention, with the exception of high end dSLR's none of them have LCD preview (of course most point and shoot cameras have this 'ability').

A Canon 10D MIGHT be able to be had from $100-$200 depending on what someone has bundled it with on eBay. However it won't meet some of your requirements... like it doesn't have LCD preview, and it takes compact flash, not SDHC.

I said the lenses, etc are not a requirement, only the list is required. Most of those are standard features except the remote option

I will look at the Cannon 10D, I dont like CF (all my mobile devices use SDHC) but if it works I can buy a CF reader for $10 off ebay.

Yeah your best bet is going to be a used DSLR if you want the interchangeable lens. This will open you up to a much better variety of images and such once you start on your photographic journey. If you are really set on the SD memory then I would go with a SD to CF card converter/reader. This will give you the capability but be forewarned that more than likely the 10D/20D Canons will not recognize the newer SDHC cards.

For your strict list I would probably go with something like a Canon SD1100IS. Bought the wife one and she loves it, has face recognition, fairly fast, can take a tripod as well as SD cards. Only thing I am not sure about is the remote (and as far as I know those are usually reserved for the higher end cameras). And best of all you can get a Kit (battery, case, card, etc) from costco for about $150.

Really at this point it is time to go out and play with some of them and then make a move from there.

I have a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ8

It has all the features you need sans remote control. It's only a tad bit over $100.

you have two options:

Canon 590 IS = $115

Canon A470 = $80

I still say save up a additional $100, and your options would have quadruped. Also when you find a camera model you are interested in, you might want to hit up craigslist to see if anyone has one used. You usually can haggle them pretty well...

I agree, save up a bit more. That is a really low budget and I am sure you could extend it a bit with some time as long as you do not have a trip coming up or event you need it for.
