I've decided after upgrading stuff pretty much constantly I've got to stop doing it, at less until I pay some credit down. My addiction has me in a hole that I've dug for myself. I've got a E8600 running at 3.8 on air with no changes in the bios which is good, but the thing is I never get a chance to even do much on the thing. I like games, but have limited time to play (two year daughter main reason). So anyway, I think I've got to have a self intervention here. Also, if my wife finds out how much I'm in for she will more than likely kill me. It's not that we can't pay it off it's the 'she doesn't understand my love for PC's even though I teach computing in college'. Anyway, thanks for listening.:eek:
 
you gotta upgrade to i7 else your daughter wont be able to play those new Dora Teh Explorer games due out next year!
 
I've got an e8400 and e7200 in the garage right now, no time to build with (3 kids!), plus my Q6600 main rig... Would love an i7, but the e8400 and spending $200 for a gtx260/hd4870 will be all the computer I need for my gaming needs. The kids q6600 @ 3.0ghz is all they need for Dora and Webkinz.

Actually, my q6600 and 9800gtx are all I need for gaming, but you gotta upgrade for entertainment value.
 
It's funny, because I'm actually waiting for the i7 release to drive prices down a bit more before I can splurge on an 8400 or the like and upgrade my home machine. So quit holding off, more demand for i7s will mean better prices for us broketypes, right? ;)

Thats a good idea. The best position to be in with credit cards is one where you can pay it all off monthly (unless you have accounts with 0% interest, even then you would want to be able to pay it off in whole before the interest kicks in)

Better wait for Sandy bridge if we are going to play the waiting game. Westmere is just Nehalem shrink anyway. No need to get the hopes up to high about it

Buying stuffs on credit that you don't NEED == tragic.

Only use your CC for convenience.
If you ever need to borrow past 30 days, do with a credit union at a low fixed rate.

The only thing that has ever kept me from upgrading was never money but rather the time needed to install and reconfigure everything to my liking.
I could certainly use a new machine to edit my AVCHD files.

thats actually what i tend to be more excited about these days. the new arch is great....but the new arch + equal or lower power consumption than the last is what really draws me in. waiting for my e8400 as opposed to jumping on e6600, for example. gonna pick up a q9300 soon rather than jumping for a q6600 G0 way back when, etc

plus, by the time the die shrinks roll around, prices are so much lower on both the cpus and on the motherboards. i think its a good strategy...you still have roughly the same upgrade cycle as the guys who upgrade to the new archs at release, but you end up spending mybe 50% of the money and have the extra smugness factor about your lower power consumption/temps
 
I am always have to withhold myself from the same issues, Im doing good but I am always at war inside =)
