So my 2k box has started giving me this error. It's happened quite a few times and I don't fully know what it means and can't find a thing on it! I have tried to fix it many times, and only once successfully. when I enter the SATA RAID config at startup, I can rebuild the mirrored set, but most of the time this fails and blows away the partitions which is not good. Can anyone shed a bit more light on what it means so I can work out what the cause is and how to fix safely?

Its a Gigabyte mainboard (GA_something_ULTRA) with Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATA RAID controller in a mirrored configuration. The box is still running fine and at speed, but I don't like the look of it...

Thanks in anticipation.

It could be a dying drive. Might want to download the manufacturer's util and run a test on it. It's not a fool-proof test, but if it finds a problem RMA the drive and be glad your RAID 1 set saved your bacon :D
