Gigabyte RMA experience (GPU)

Here is the deal, I am an owner of a Gigabyte 290X that is experiencing the obvious fan rattle, clicking and even an intermittent fan squeal sound.

You can tell that there is some play in the way the fan is seated to the fan motor.

Upon being distracted constantly by these sounds from this supposed award winning cooler, I stopped two of the three fans during boot to see if the noise would stop, sure enough it did.

A week or so goes by the fan starts make a loud squealing noise, I though Okay time to shut down the PC and pull out the video card and have an RMA issued; this is were the fun begins.

- request for RMA sent with a detailed trouble description: result - no email or noticed received by the RMA department.

-call Gigabytes RMA department on my dime- provide issue description again, RMA issued.

-on my dime pay for expedited shipping, special packaging and insurance (you never know) $ 42 dollars and change.

-receive an email stated that they received the product. Great!

-today, check my email... no notification of status in my inbox, Okay they are still working at replacing the fans, I am thinking.... nope better check ... Login to Gigabytes RMA page.. noted the No Trouble Found note in my RMA status page. WOW Okay...

I guess replacing some fans are quite the task

-today, call up Gigabyte and get a hold of a rep. provide the issue description AGAIN and ask quite simply 'replace the fans as I did not ship the product out of pocket if I felt like there wasn't an issue'... have a video card making constant ticking sounds and intermittent squealing fans are not an option. Or worse a melted video card or perhaps even an F'd PC since I cannot be around my computer 24-7 as its running.

I will update this for you folks on how this plays out in the next week or so.

I would just be patient and let them handle it. You would be surprised at how often things get sent back with a "no trouble found" but are fixed. I used to handle RMAs professionally and would see it all of the time. It's a way of making you happy without admitting they messed up or sold a low quality product in the first place. I've had similar experiences with Gigabyte as well.

Thanks for the reply.

Comments noted, will wait and see until I see the actual card before passing judgement further.

Any update on this? I'm thinking of picking up a Gigabyte video card.

Maybe the "no trouble found" is in reference to the GPU and not the fans?

Or the RMA guy is deaf?

I've RMA'd to Gigabyte once and it was handled very professionally.:D

Ouch. Sad thing is, it would be cheaper and definitely quicker to just replace the fans yourself.
