GForce2, 32meg Color Problem

I just recently built myself a new computer, AMD 2500+ and stuff. Anyways... when I first installed my GForce2 into the new computer... everything worked just fine. But recently the color has become very dark, and every time I try to turn the brightness up with my vid. card control pannel and reboot... it sets that brightness level back down to it darker state. Any advice on helping me fix this brightness problem?

Oh, and I've already tried reinstalling the drivers... Will I need a new vid card?
 
I saw the same sympthoms on a friend´s computer, but it was the monitor goind bad :(
