Eteknix claims that Polaris 10 High end part R490X will indeed perform close to 980Ti
While Polaris 10 R480X will be faster than the 390X

The thing gets tricky as both R490x and R480x were reported as $300 dlls cards hence the confusion.
R490X is apparently going for $300-$400 according to eteknix

AMD Polaris 10 R9 480 Offers 390X Performance

Look us AMD fans have got accustomed to keeping our expectations fairly low!:) Dont mess with our heads

Well at least someone with the AMD marketing team is having fun leaking things on the internet and then laughing at our amazing reactions. They should make a Youtube series out of:

Grown Men Reacting to Video Card Specifications!

I just want the new videocards to be out already:

As Smithers said: Bring on the Men! (and by Men, I mean videocards)

I wonder how many people are contemplating suicide over in AMD's camp? WCCF will be besides themselves come tomorrow morning once the reality of the situation sets in

No need to hit the wrists just yet. If a 232 amd polaris chip could get close to a 980ti, then a 330mm pascal chip should be a good bit higher than a 980ti/titan x.

We knew nvidia was going to take the high end, the real competition for amd will be the 1070, how much higher than a 980ti will it be?

nvidia made some advances for vr, but no mention on whether pascal was better than maxwell on handling context switching, or concurrent async compute, or dx12 in general or who knows what else. One the advantages of each are thrown into the mix, especially on newer dx12 designed titles we'll get a clearer picture of where things stand. If the top polaris chip trades blows with the 1070, for 299 instead of 380, there is an argument to be made for it. I would have preferred amd flat out beat them because they need to to gain share, but oh well.
