If I wanted to start playing some modern pc games, then what kind of a setup am i looking for video card wise? I would love to run a 3 monitor config like i see some with. Shoot me some recommendations.
 
well first off the rest of your pc is going to have to be very good too so list your other specs in detail.
 
You really need to provide us with the full specs of your current rig.

I'd hate to see spend some of your hard earned $'s only to find out that that you're rig bottlenecks your new card and you're no better off with the new card.
 
Even if we knew his budget and specs, the best recommendation at this point is to wait. By this time next month there will be new products out and current generation products will have to drop in price accordingly.

Msi Ka780
Athlon X4 9850@2.5
8gb DDR2

I will be playing games like Fifa11, Mafia 2, TFU2 when it is released.

My budget is $125-150 I have been checking this card out.

In that price range the only single card that can run 3 monitors is a 5770. Then you need an active display port to DVI adapter for around $30. You'll be lucky if you can lower the graphics settings enough, to get playable frame rates with those games, with 3 monitors.
I know my friends single 5770 is fine with reduced graphics settings, in Left 4 Dead 2, Medal of Honor Tier 1 beta, IL2 and GRID, with three 1920x1080 monitors. BFBC2 is a bit slow at times.
On a single monitor the GTX 460 768 would be your best bet in that price range.
 
So i have been on newegg. For now I will just use one monitor, but could possibly upgrade to three in future. Here is what I have been looking at.

at 1920x1080 you will have to turn down settings in many games but its an okay card. I would spend 30 more bucks and get the 6850 though. btw your cpu is pretty poky especially in games that don't fully utilize more than 2 cores.

well you don't have to upgrade it but you want get the most out of a video card if you don't. at 1920x1080 though and with something like a 6850 or slower it will not be too bad. your mobo might be compatible with Phenom 2 and if it is then grab an X4.

The GTX 460 768MB is faster then the 5770. If you want to game with 3 monitors down the road, you'll need 2 of them and a motherboard that supports SLI.
Newegg has it on for $149.99 after the mail in rebate. It's a 2 year warranty like the Sapphire.

I agree it's worth the extra $30 for the 6850, which is as fast as the GTX 460 1GB and supports 3 monitors, on a single card (with the $30 active adapter).

SLI certainly ain't supported that mobo.

6850 is his best option, unless he prefers Nvidia cards and is willing to run the GTX 460 @ 850MHz++ to justify his purchase of that card over the 6850.

I think my cpu is X4. It is a Phenom X4 9850 @ 2.5ghz

As far as the video card goes, I didnt want to hear that i had to spend more than $150. But if you guys think I should get the 6850 then that is what I am going to get.

yes your cpu is a Phenom X4 but I was saying your mobo might be compatible with Phenom 2 X4. at 1920x1080 you will be happier with the 6850.

I just checked the MSI site i am compatible with Phenom 2 X4. For now I am going to focus on getting the video card. But now that I know that I can get a better cpu I probably will in the near future.

After reading it seems the 6850 is very good at 1920x1080
 
But then again he could also buy an AM3 processor, it will work on his mobo with a bios update easily.

why would he buy an AM3 cpu for an AM2+ board when he can just get the proper cpu in the first place? isn't the only difference ddr3 support which he cant run anyway?
