I see Dell has a sale on the U3011, and i'm really tempted to pull the trigger on this. I have a U2410 right now, but I plan on building a new system the winter when Intel releases there new CPU.
I think my current max rez of 1920x1200 will be a "bottlenick" for the video cards I plan on getting. Should I get this now or is there something better just around the corner?

The 27" Samsung PLS will be coming in a month or so, but I can't think of any 30" 16:10 monitors right around the corner. If you don't actually need the monitor now, it might be to your benefit to wait - there will be more sales.

Get it...nothing like gaming at 2560x1600.... be careful they are addicting and they can start to multiply

LOL....that is what I am afaird of. Seems I waited to long, the sale is over on Dell's website. Guess I will wait for it to go on sale again

Forget the U3011. Get the 3007WFP-HC for half the price.

Checking it out now...what do you guyz think of this one?

Also, what do this mean?

"IMPORTANT: To view the 3007WFP-HC monitor native resolution of 2560x1600, your PC must have a dual-link DVI-D compatible graphics card that supports this resolution"

It means you need an nVidia 6200 or newer graphics card.

Have you checked Dell Outlet? That's where I got mine for 700$ shipped.

Isn't those from Dell Outlet are refurbished items? don't refurbished items usually have problems with them since they're used? And I just checked their outlet, there's no 30"

You're a lot more likely to find a u3011 on the outlet nowadays than a 3007wfp-hc

Yea i know the u3011 is newer, but is'nt everything from the outlet is refurbished? why would you buy a refurbished item? it always has some kind of problems and it's not new.

the whole point of refurbishing an item is to try to correct whatever problems it had. After that it can not be resold as new - it's sold as refurbished

You could get two more U2410s and run a surround gaming setup. I was debating on either going with 1 u3011, u2710, or three 24 inch monitors. I finally went with three HP ZR24 monitors. Tri monitor gaming is taking some getting used to but so far I like it.

I got my 3007WFP-HC from Dell Outlet as refurbished item.

I honestly could not have possibly, in any way, concluded that it was, in fact, used.

Dell's 'refurbished' basically means that either somebody sent it back immediately or they've re-built it anew.

This. As for the monitor itself, I'd go for the Dell 3007WFP-HC as well due to the lack of any perceivable input lag. The U3011 is reported to be very bad about that although some people are happy with them. However if you need more inputs than just DVI, then the 3007WFP-HC won't work for you.

The ZR30w is also a good choice for what I hear as an alternative to the U3011.

What about the AG coating on the 3007WFP-HC? I heard it's the same as the U2711 and U3011 which are considered bad. I know the HP ZR30 AG coating is a lot less which prob the best 30" now on the market.

It's true that there is some input lag due to the scaler, but I have never actually been able to notice it. It seemed better than my 3008wfp in that respect (which is really the one known for the lag)

I was thinking that last night. Couple things holding me back:

1. I do not think I got the space for 3 monitors.

2. I dunno if 3x monitor gaming is for me.

Anyways, both monitors are no longer on sale, so I am going todo some more research while I wait for another sale or it shows up on the outlet store.

I had three 24" monitors in eyefinity... in landscape at least, it sucks in about 75% of games. In portrait is not bad, but the bezels are always right in your view and you're not really getting a superwide screen, just a big one.

Got a U3011.... teh awsum! Its big and high resolution without bezels.

As Starsky would say no, seriously, come on, do it. Do it. DO IT.

The ZR30w is the best gaming upgrade I have made in years, I say go for the 30" goodness!

Is the AG coating on the HP ZR30w is less than on the Dell U3011? cause I know ppl said the U3011 AG coating is really bad.

I agree with everyone else. I just returned two alienware monitors in eyefinity. I'm itching to get my hands on a 30" again. I miss how rich the colors were. the screen makes wallpapers look amazing and crysis played great on that zr30w. i returned the zr30w as well but im thinking about picking it up again

Can I ask why did you return the zr30w in the first place? and now u want to get it again? Just wondering cause I might get a ZR30w over the Dell U3011.

Starcraft 2 on a 30" makes the units and environment twice as big. Making it twice as hard to control. But the detailing of the units was so nice because at 30" they units are bigger and you can really see the detail. This is where every other game shines because in Crysis the thing I noted the first time I played it was the hand that holds the gun looked so detailed and nice. It looked as if the game was made for 1600p. Grand Theft Auto also ran great. Flying around on the Helicopter rivaled the 120hz monitor in speed and control. It didn't feel laggy at all. Crysis didn't feel laggy either. Its great for games.

My opinion on way to get Zr30W over U3011.

They say they use the same panels. The Zr30w made wallpapers look amazing. You'll be playing with wallpapers when you get it just to see the nice colors it can make.

You don't have to see the giant DELL logo at the bottom. That really turned me off even if I would consider it but I wouldn't because the ZR30W has way less input lag which is what everyone says. And any kind of lag for a gaming monitor is a no no.

i rreturned it cuz i mostly play starcraft 2 and i felt it was a wwaste to get it cuz i play better ona smaller screen thats 120hz. I want to get another one because I rather play every other game on the zr30w like battlefield 3 thatscoming... but I will probably wait till the fall to see if a monitor comes out that bears teh zr30w. otherwise ill be getting it again when I build a new pc when 2011 and kepler are out

OP, I'd pass on the U3011 and wait for the Samsung SA850. Better display, better price.
