Right now im planning out what i will be getting for my A64 rig this summer, i looked around on google and i couldnt find anything specific on what i was looking for. Cause im just wondering what is the performance difference of X16 PCI-E to 8x AGP, im planning to do pci-e since it is within my budget. Right now im using a 9600Pro Agp, will i notice a performance improvement when i move to pci-e. Im planning to get a PCX-GeForce 5750 for my new card, basically what kind of improvments will i see in moving from Agp to Pci-e
P.S: Sorry for the long post, i get typing and it takes me a while to stop typing
Also if you know of any good articles on this section, could you please link them

If you do go PCI-e, I'd strongly recommend a much better videocard than that GeForce PCX 5750. You see, a GeForce PCX 5750 is basically a GeForce FX 5700 non-Ultra ported over to PCI-e; as such, it will actually be slower than your current Radeon 9600 Pro.

There's no actual difference between the two right now, there will be later on.

But on another note, if you moved to a 5750 you'll actually be going down in peformance. The FX cards are crap, nothing but pure crap. Stay away from them, PCIe or AGP, in both interfaces they suck!

I'd highly recommend either a 6200 (you'd maintain performance) or 6600 (non GT if you want to stay cheap) for a decent boost in performance if you desire to go with PCIe.
 
Cause i only have a max of $500 to spend on a mobo/proc/vid card/psu/case/, cause i have everything else but those things. Ok cause i was looking at the FX5750 and it looked alright, but thank you for steering me clear of that. I was considering getting one of the 6 series cards, i will look and see what i can get that would do better

If you do go for a 6200, buy one with at least 128MB of onboard memory. Stay away from the "turbo cache" versions of the 6200; they have too little onboard memory and must steal some of your PC's main system memory for themselves.
 
Well i was hoping to have money left over for me to spend, cause by august i should have $1,00. So i was going to divide it half and half for two different things, turns out that i would actually be able to get the 6600gt. Then again i could just get the agp version of that, and put it in my current box and have money left over.
Well thank you guys, i now need to ponder if i want to lay down $500 for an A64 setup or if i want to bulk up my Athlon XP 2500+ system
 
just get an AGP card upgrade for your 2500+, most games are graphics card limited anyways and a 2500+ should be pretty decent especially if you overclock it some. I say get that 6600GT and maybe more memory depending upon how much you have right now, and call it quits on upgrading. You wont see too much performance switching to A64, especially trying to work on such a tight budget.
 
Ram would be a good idea, i only have 512mb of crosair value select so its holding me back a lil' bit. Alright well now to get me a 6600Gt

actually all are CPU limited
 
Well like i said before i have $500 to spend, and i thought about it for a while about what i could get for that much. Anybody have a 6800GT AGP, cause that is under 500 and would leave me enough for a new psu/hsf/ram. Either that or i could build up another box for linux, so for now im not sure of what i want to do.
And again thank you for giving me your valued advice on this delicate matter
