General Consensus?

Catalyst Drivers or Omega Drivers? Which do you prefer?

So it seems like everyone goes back and forth on CAT's and the OMEGA drivers. What's everyone running/prefer?

I don't trust omega driver @ all. I have been experiencin bsod with that driver so i ain't wastin my time using that driver.

I stick with catalyst, just because they get the job done pretty good for me (have so far anyways) and I'm not about to try something that may offer worse stability for a chance at maybe 4 more fps. I am pretty uneducated about the omega drivers though, so it's hard for me to accurately judge the two...

Used to use Omega drivers, but the release dates are few and far between, there was no support for my VIVO*, and several releases were buggy as hell.

*I would get the "Found New Hardware" propmt at every restart.

yea my friend had that problem on sapphire x800xl agp video card lol, but with rage theatre.

I am using the new omega 5.6 drivers now... and they don't seem to offer much of an improvement over the standard catalyst install...

I don't use the ATI tray tools though...

Now, the modified drivers certainly aren't SLOWER...

I just wish that the driver .inf mod guys would list the changes they have made... but I think if they did that it might be seen that little is acually done... hehe

I noticed that Omega does not make a laptop driver. Anyone know if these drivers can be modded to work with the laptop?

**Edit**

Anyone know anything about zer0point Catalyst 0.5.6 drivers? I found them at www.guru3d.com

I chose not a risk taker..........i trust a video car manufacter to give drivers for their products, not some 3rd party person/people

I just use the Catalyst drivers. I've never really tried the Omega's much but i figure the Catalyst drivers give relatively the same performance on average and are most likely to have fewer bugs.

well I just tried the zer0point 5.6 drivers and they fixed all my issues that I was having with BF2. All my AA issues have been resolved. I'm not sure why or how really but hey it now works. The visual quality appears to be better as well. Not sure if it's just me but it does seem to be better. I'd say give them a try fellas, you really don't have much to loose.

I guess if your into benchmarking, the Omegas would be the way to go. If your just an old gamer like me you don't want the trouble it takes to tune and maintain, you just go for the Cats and a version that's compatable with your games.

Omega, because the modded Catalysts I need to run my laptops always mess up if my system is unplugged from and plugged back in if not in standby.

That doesn't happen with the Omegas..

if it's a desktop card, I'm more apt to just use the ATI's.

I've ran the NGO's, omega's, and the catalyst...for some reason my system never likes the catalyst and always some modified driver

I've been using only the catalysts since I got my aiw x800xt.I use ati tray tools instead of the CCC. I'm glad I can download a version without the CCC.

Frankly, I doubt I'd notice whatever improvement these modified drivers claim to have on my machine.

I use omega drivers and have for over a year, never had problems. I also use them on my laptops a ATI 9000 MR on a 1024x768 screen and a ATI 9700 MR on a 1280x800 screen. DriverHeaven has a mob tool to add the mobilty video cards. Its version 2.2 I think. Its a great help and offer it as a great help for laptop users. They even have a section just for ati mobilty stuffs.

I change my drivers more often than i change clothes :D Currently on Omega's 5.6 but im getting graphical anomalies while running 3DMark 05 (Bleeding colours on bottom and right side of screen?? Any ideas?) Everything else works great. Got a few FPS increase on Doom 3...though these 5.6 have the same weird overheating problemas the Catalyst's. I'll change when the Cat 5.7's come out....then again when Omega releases his :)
