well hey bout to buy me a gig of 4000ddr (4x256) and was wonder which would you buy givin the 2 choices and dont go saying save and get <insert obligatory name brand here> because i don't intend to save anymore.

however if you say get say 4200 or something like that i might consider it.
 
I would get HyperX, based on seeing many people complain about Geil. But, Geil's timings may be better.
 
I personally trust Kingston more as well.

Is there any particular reason why you're going with 4x256 as opposed to 2x512?
 
I've had nothing but good experiences with Kingston, so I'd personally vouch for them. I'm currently running HyperX PC3500 in my system and I'm satisfied with my performance. Sure, I'd like to be running the Mushkin Level II Black BH-5 chips, but money is the constraint.

I haven't exactly heard many positive reports about the Geil series of RAM either. Especially not the Dragon series, which has better benchmarkings than the Mushkin.

As far as I remember, for P4 setups they run faster at 4x256 than 2x512.

Actually no, not at all. Your stability has a much better chance at being good across 2 chips than 4. You also leave room for upgrading. It's pretty much a dumb idea to buy 4 chips instead of 2.

I just bought two sticks of Geil Golden Dragon (2x256/3200).
One stick was bad (no boot with it installed), RMA'd it and got a good stick back.
But it won't run over "Aggressive" timings on my NF7-S. Only 1 step above "Optimal" (the lowest setting).
Not impressed so far.
Maybe tweaking the voltage might help?

I read on AnAndTech, that (i think theyre memory showdown thing) 4x256 beat the 2x512

so ya lost me there is that go for 2 sticks or 4.
 
i feel that kingston hyperx is better at slower speeds like pc3200, but corsair xms is better at higher speeds like pc4000. i forget whatever reason i have for this statement, something about voltages. but feel free to correct me if im wrong.

and my vote is still definately in favor of buying 2 sticks of dual channel. buying 4 sticks is for suxors. i think if you just ask around you can find 95% of people agreeing with me on this one. the other 5% being people who believe every review they read on tomsharware.com
 
wouldnt four sticks increase the latency as apposed to two? im lost..
