Which card is better a geforce fx 5600 and above or radeon 9600 and above? Looking for a great card under 300$

get a ati radeon 9800pro for $250 at circuitcity or powered by ati 9800pro at newegg for
$210
or wait for gefoce 6800 nu for $300 or r420 from ati

I agree, even if the newer mid range cards arent wow factor material, they'll still drive the price of everything else down.
 
I would say WAIT. Unless you have to have something now please wait. With the new cards coming out every thing should be dropping in price. And you might even be able to pick up one of the new cards that meets your price range in just a short while. If you really want the best for your money it would be best to wait at least a few weeks after the new cards come out. If they are above your price range then at least the top of the line now will come down a lot in prices. But from what I have read the lower NVIDIA will start at around $299 and it is a lot faster than anything out right now. The way they always all if they start at $299 in just a few short weeks some will start falling to below that in order to try to get more sales. And like I said at the least the top of the line now will fall in price.
 
Wait till GF6800NU is out!!

or wait for at x800pro or x800se :p
 
I just got a Sapphire 9800 PRO and no geforce I have seen yet can even comes within 2000 3dmarks of approaching the card.
It is a power hog and can heat the living room but it was SOOO worth it. by bye NVIDIA... I'm going to miss you.
 
I propose waiting too, unless you're incredibly impatient and can't stand to wait a month or so.

The Geforce 6800 looks like it will be a killer, so you might want to hold till till NV4x based cards, or Radeon R4xx cards.

If you must have one NOW, in Nvidia camp, I really think FX5900XT is the bare minimum you'd want to buy. It costs a little more than the FX5700, but it offers better performance.

In ATi camp, the Sapphire Radeon 9800 is the sweet spot.
 
Just wait a few months for the new vid cards to fully come out. Then the prices on everything else will slowly make their way down to a more friendly price. Personally I think a 9700 pro is about the best high end card for the money (not that much behind a 9800 pro, and it's $30 cheaper).

Don't buy a GeForce, you will be dissapointed when you try to run any games hi-res, and your frame rate dips to 10.
 
If you must buy a nVIDIA card, buy a 5900XT. Otherwise, buy a Radeon 9800Pro. It's faster than nVIDIA cards and runs PS2.0 and DX9 games beautifully.
 
Wait a few weeks, you'll be kicking yourself if you shell out 200.00 now, just to find out you could have saved yourself 50 or more if you had waited. Wait for 9800pro to hit the 175.00 range then jump on it.

WHOA HO how about he DOESNT overpay at Circuit City? for the price a 9600 was at compusa I got a 9800SE that was not only much more powerful stock, but modded perfectly to a 9800pro, from newegg

i just ordered 9800np from newegg for 40 cheaper than a 9800pro, and it performs almost exactly the same(within 1 fps in most cases) as the 9700pro, so im happy with that purchase, its also going to be an upgrade from a 9200se, so this should be interesting:)

bah, i am still not convinced that the g6800U has any noticable differenced over my gf4 mx 460
