I put together a system for my little brother last night with a Gigabyte board and 2100+ that I had, along with a Gigabyte 5200. I put everything together, and it started fine the first few times. I restarted the computer to install XP, and there was no video. The monitor just goes into power save. I've tried the card in my computer and it works fine. Does anyone have any ideas about what might be causing this problem?

Its not that it doesn't post, there's just no video output at all. As soon as you turn on the computer and monitor, the monitor goes into power save mode. There are still beeps, the CD drives light up and the hard drive spins, but there's nothing on the screen.

specs are
Athlon XP 2100+
Gigabyte GA-7N400-L
512mb PC2100 (generic)
80gb Samsung
Gigabyte GeForce FX 5200
Lite-On cd-rw

did you move it at all that would disloge the card?

If it were the PSU, wouldn't it have not started the 1st couple times?

BTW, if this is just a fill in card for the future purchase, I also have the FX 5200 (Chaintech though) and this thing OCs like CRAZY. I'm running it at 315/445 from 250/332, Right now I'm testing it, but it runs 3dmark great and GTA3 and UT2k4 w/o any artifacting. I havn't tried running 3dmark for like 9 hours or anything yet, but we'll see how it goes.

Also, before I bumped it up even more, the settings I had it in are in mr sig.

it gives one short beep, which it did before the problem started. I've reseated the card a few times, and tried the card in a different system. It's seated properly, i'm sure of it.

Edit: The power supply is one that i've had for quite a while. Its generic, but it gets the job done.

Edit again: I just reseated the card one more time to see if it would help, and now there are no beeps at all.

i just tried an old GeForce 2 in there and got nothing. it must be the board. Thanks for all your help.

Make sure the defaut display device is set to AGP in the BIOS, and make sure that any onboard video is disabled.

i had a generic PSU that started doing the same thing that you're talking about. everything would come on but the display. if i played with it enough i could get it to start up eventually. i would try another PSU before anything.

maybe for some reason is just decided to quit it's job. I'd try another one, but if you don't have another PSU to use, Antec, and PC Power and Cooling are on top.

ive played around for a while and its either something stupid in BIOS or the power supply. hopefully its just the BIOS. thanks for all your help

well, its got video now, but it gets stuck at the screen that says "verifying DMI Pool Data............."

Edit: Everything is cool now. It was just quirky BIOS settings. Thanks a ton to everyone who helped me out.

Unless he's gaming, that card is just fine. It's probably a little better than your GF2 anyway

Dont hate on the gf 2! it's a damned good card for its day- In its day the gf 2 gts was a super star... in its day the 5200... is CRAP. GG, you all lose.

Relax about the 5200 guys. he's 14 and just wanted something that would let him play star wars galaxies.
