gateway bios

Some gateway BIOSes have the option that if you hit the TAB key if will show you what's going on behind the pic Gateway Bootup Logo

Your option for the BIOS might be behind that picture

Did you try all the standard BIOS entry hotkeys like F1, F2, Del, S, etc.???
 
Most likely its f1 or f2, but you'll have to try 'em all. Hitting Esc while the dell stuff is on screen usually shows you the bios messages.
