I recently bought at Sound Blaster Z and am loving it. Currently using a set of ATH-M50's but am planning to pick up a set of Phillips Fidelio X1's once they go back on sale.

What microphones do you recommend? I'll use it exclusively for TS/Vent and gaming. Budget is within reason for that use. I think a a Blue Yeti is probably overkill.

I've looked at the Antlion ModMics but the new version seems to be taking forever to roll into stock. I've also considered the Zalman boom mic and a few other cheaper options. Any feedback would be appreciated.
 
The soundblaster z comes with a mic it's decent for ts/vent unless you wanted something closer to your face.
 
Modmic is what I recommend. I have a ZxR and it sounds clear as a bell through it.
 
I've been using the microphone that came with the Z. My teammates all say it sounds like trash in TS and can barely understand me.

Venomous, what version are you using?
 
Get the 3.0 if you need it now or wait for the 4.0. I have the 3.0 and have zero complaints. People ask what I use during gaming because it's that clear.

Have you messed with the crystal voice features in the soundblaster app? They make a pretty big difference and be sure to set the mic as your primary source in ts/vent.
 
I've got a cheap boom mic branded "GE" that I got at Target for like $10. I'm using the built-in audio on my i7 motherboard, with both game and voice-chat audio routed to headphones. It took a small amount of tweaking to get the record levels right, to minimize any overmodulation/distortion, and to get it to feed a bit of the mic signal back to my headphones. Both were adjusted in the Windows sound control panels and mixer, so I can swap freely between Vent and TS3 with zero issues.
 
I just got a sound blaster z as well when I purchased some ATH-AD700s. I've never plugged in the mic that came with the card because when I purchased the headphones I also purchased a Zalman mic on Amazon for $7.60. I wont be purchasing another mic anytime soon, works great and is very inexpensive.
 
The Zalman didn't work so good for me when attaching it to my monitor FYI. Worked OK on the headphones cord but not as clear as a boom mic in front of your mouth which is the route I would go if I had to have yet another cord tying me down.
 
OFaceSIG, I hear you about not needing more for gaming. I understand that with compression over ts/vent it's not really necessary to have a super expensive mic.

I think I'm going to hold out for the newest generation of modmic. Supposedly they are being produced very soon. I'll report back once I get my hands on it.
