Gaming mATX Shoebox Interest Thread

Hm, would the little air slots on the front side provide enough airflow for the front fans?

Wouldn't open fan holes be better for cooling?

Thanks.

Version B looks fairly good. The extra width for the 5th PCI slot would also give room for the slightly longer radiators I mentioned. One thing to consider for watercooling, you may need to mount the front fans off centre to fit most rads since they have the lump with the barbs on one end which is 35-50 mm long on most 2x 120mm rads.

UrbanSmooth- I'm not completely sure I understand what you mean, but something like this? If so, we will have a "backup" design that is similar, incase the restriction from the normal vent holes is too high. We'll be doing more work on this once the design gets closer to being finished though.

CrimsonFury- Already taken into consideration:p The good thing about this is that it will also allow for a stack of HDDs to be placed on the CPU side (restrictions apply). Unfortunately, it also looks like 12" (304.8mm) is the lowest we can decrease the width to (12" on both designs). Once we are into the prototype stage, it may be possible to decrease it slightly, although I cannot say for sure.

Thanks again for the feedback guys:)

I would not mind seeing a smaller mini itx version of the original design.
With a single 120mm fan in front and a single 120mm fan on the top.
1 single slimline ODD slot and 2 2.5 drive bays.
Size: 12” x 12” x 8” (W x D x H)

I agree, would be a good mini-itx design.
Bump the fans up to 140mm or 180mm. A single 240mm top fan may even be possible.
Perhaps 10" x 13" x 8" (W x D x H) would look better.

In addition to what's been shown here already, I agree.

A Mini-ITX case based off this design would definitely be a possibility. It should be relatively easy to downsize the design and make the needed changes. The dimensions that darrella posted appear to be pretty close to what we'd be looking at. A top 240mm is also definitely possible at those dimensions. I'm not too sure when we'd start working on it, but it would be shortly after the release of this case.

Some more work has been done on the design, and I believe we will be using design B. At the dimensions posted for design B (12" x 15" x 10.25" / W x D x H), it would be possible to fit around 3+ HDD's and 6 SSD's (not including convertible 5.25" and depending on configuration). The standard configuration would be 2x 2.5" and 2x 3.5", with the extra mounting hardware being optional. The use of the GPU side 3.5" would restrict the use of the 5th PCI slot, although this mount is optional. Below is a picture of the layout:

Once again, thank you for all your feedback and we look forward to hearing what you think!
