Does anyone have suggestions for a Gaming sound card with the optical out so i can utilize my new headset's optical ability. Price range is 200 and under. And nothing Creative.

Lol you have a headset with optical? What kind of a DAC/Amp does it have?

I don't see why you would buy such a god-awful thing... Why do you need a soundcard if you are connecting via optical?

And what's a 'gaming' soundcard? Is that like a 'gaming' headphone/headset?

erm not sure where ya are getting the "god-awful" rating, but optical is better then coax so i was just looking for a sound card to match the headset.

If you dont want a Creative card and want full 5.1 EAX / OpenAL effects in games, the only other card is the Auzentech Prelude.
The Asus Xonar does a simulated version of EAX/OpenAL but its not as good at doing those effects, it depends what you want.
The Xonar is a great sound card otherwise and will also encode 5.1 windows/game sounds and transmit them via SPDIF.

I have the Prelude and it is an awesome card for home theatre, analogue or digital.
It does everything you will need it to.
Hopefully some Xonar users will tell you about their card so you can make a balanced decision.

Optical carries the exact same data/information as coax.
The quality is identical.

Sometimes, with really cheap cables, there is more jitter but yeah. A decent coax is the same as a decent optical. None of my digital cables cost more than $30 though.

Thanks Nenu,

I think I will go with Auzen

Work the same as

I believe they are both optical cords but not sure if either or will work in the Optical in on the Auzen.

Both those are normal optical cables and have the same connectors.
The Prelude comes with the necessary adapter to fit ye standard optical cable.

Ah thanks mate, your advice was very helpful. Heh someone trying to solve the probelm rather then bashing the parts.

Well, you DID go and buy a silly, overpriced piece of poop.

Not bashing. Just sad to see money spent in ignorance. You are no dummy. Just trying to get good sound without knowing what really works best for the $$.

When you get sick of that headset, ask me what really works for your budget.

eh, it's comfy, and I like it, and that's all that matters :) but thank you.
