Gameplay vs IQ ?

how important is IQ for you when you 'rate' a game?

I'm running a 9800Pro with a P4 2.8@3.4 and 512 Ram.

For a while I was getting really carried away deciding whether to stop eating for a few months and save for an x800xt-pe or a 6800u or wait and get 2 6600gt in SLI or .....blah blah blah.

And then it hit me, if D3 is a great game (which I don't think it is), how much 'better' is it at higher resoloution. And if Far Cry is great (which I think it is) how much more would I enjoy playing it at higher resoloution?

I guess what I'm asking is, how important is the IQ for your enjoyment of a game?
 
I like pretty games myself, but I'm also a very big RPG fan. Thus, I tend to play at 1024, because lower than that the text that is usually integral to the plot becomes a bit of a challenge to read.
 
I agree, but i think I enjoyed Diablo 2 more than Neverwinter Nights although NWN was graphically far superior.

...........Perhaps this isn't the right forum to have a crisis of confidence regarding IQ on !!
 
I think they are both important but the game itself has to be good otherwise I wouldn't play it to begin with.

I still play Diablo 2, that game has some of the best game play, its fast, and the all different types of equipement just want to find them all :D

I was actually disappointed with NWN's graphics, before the engine was released, they touted that thing like it was the next big thing in graphics programming.
 
Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is one of the most visually stunning single player RPG's that i've played. Its graphics still look damn good compared to the majority of other games out there today. The graphics were great and the gameplay had a way of hooking you for hours and hours.

I have to have a good mixture of IQ and Gameplay in a game to really get hooked. If the IQ is excellent and the game is over in a couple of hours then i get bored really fast. If the IQ sucks and the gameplay is excellent then i also lose interest very fast.

BTW, Far Cry has NOTHING on DOOM 3 lol. :p
 
that game was nice on an ATi 9700 with truform man the creatures were just awesome.
 
Doom was fun enough to beat it once. Far Cry wasn't even that.

But yes, both games look awesome at 16x12 4xAA/8xAF.
 
I like both. but I like gameplay more. I dont really want to spend $60 on a game that looks like Quake 1 or whatever. It would have to have fairly good gameplay for me to get it. But same applies on the other hand. I lost interest in FarCry fairly quick. But thats for FPS games.

Knight of the Old Republic is a game with both. Unbeleivable gameplay and pretty good graphics. RPG's are different though. Baldur's Gate and co are wicked games. Even with the dated engine.

Well, thats my opinion on new games anyway.

Playing old SNES games on my PC like Secret of Mana or old FF games. I could care less how they look. I guess thats how the gaming industry evolves.

3D accelerators have spoiled our eyes.
