So ... after extensive review reading and talking with a good friend who also spent WAY too much time researching, I finally chose the BenQ G2400WD. A 24" monitor was the min I wanted so I eliminated the LG L227WTG. My friend has the LG L227WTG and it is AWESOME!!! No knock to that model at all. If it was a 24", it'd be the KING, defacto, hands-down, default gaming monitor. But it's a 22" and people like their monitors big(er) these days.

I'll use this monitor for:

99% gaming. WoW, TF2, Left4Dead, HL2
1% email, spreadsheets, surfing etc

I purchased the G2400WD from NCIX (usa) with the zero dead pixel insurance ($15) on a Thursday. $346.66 in total. It arrived on the next Tuesday, a day earlier than predicted.

The box had a visible "dent" that ripped the cardboard but it was on the side, not the flat viewing area side. The "dent" made it through to the styrofoam holding the monitor in place so although scary that it could have been damage to the screen or back, there was none cuz the foam ate it up.

The VGA cable comes attached to the monitor. The DVI cable was in the box in it's own sealed bag. As was the power cord. There was a CD with the documentation as well. I think that's it. Simple.

NO DEAD PIXELS!!!

I had to turn the brightness down after a few minutes. This monitor was VERY bright.
Blacks are very BLACK. Although in fairness to other people, I don't care about backlight bleed and I wouldn't know good from bad if it bit me in the face. This monitor seems to be just fine.

Colors are AMAZING. Vibrant, rich, full bodied with a hint of nutty notes that make this a fine after dinner .... oops .... anyway .... Colors are awesome, beautiful, gorgeous. I can't stress enough how beautiful my games look.

Fast paced gaming is flawless. I don't see any lag, ghosting, tearing etc.
I'm running an Intel E8400 3.0 dual core processor, 4 gb ram, Vista Home premium, Nvidia 8800 GTS KO edition.

The monitor is 100% quiet while running and it's 100% quiet when it's off (which is good that I didn't get some poltergeist infested monitor). I don't understand how an LCD can make any noises, but I read in previous posts that some people hear a buzzing sound. I doubt that it should.

Anandtech lists this as the #2 best gaming monitor (the #1 24" gaming monitor I guess LOL) and I couldn't be happier. This isn't a technical review as some people will give, but that's all I got. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the monitor if you post em here.

Thanks for your time!

Thanks for this review, I would like to know if you tried to connect a 1080p input to your screen ?

I'm very interested in that screen, but I would like to plug my Xbox 360 to it, and I've read that there are some pulsing bars at the top and bottom while playing.

I have one with a PS3 hooked up via HDMI and it accepts 720p and 1080p no problem. However there are pulsating bars on the top and bottom when displaying 1080p. I find these to be unnoticeable after a couple minutes of playing a game and watching a movie.

Sorry, I don't have anything that is 1080p, but Bun-Bun did try it.

I'll try to put up some pics tomorrow!

theres bars because the monitor is bigger than 1080p (1920x1080) this monitor is a 16:10 resolution of 1920x1200, so thats where the bars come from.

the bars are actually a good thing because there are monitors that stretch the image even if the resolution is bigger.

Within the black bars though there are waving pulsating lines. This is what he was referring to.

I also have a G2400WD. I'll add my two-month, two-cent review:

I pretty much agree with OP. The colors are fantastic, and input lag is unnoticeable outside of synthetic tests - I measured it at avg 5 ms. It's my first LCD since coming from a CRT, and the hardest adjustment was the G2400WD's lower, fixed refresh rate at 60 Hz, compared with my CRT at 100.

I do get some tearing, but that's because I intentionally play with vsync disabled.

The only thing I dislike about it is the non-uniform brightness. That's due to the tight viewing angles, and there's a very, very slight horizontal brightness "bulge" and vertical brightness "dip" across the center of the screen. In game, it's unnoticeable, but if I have a regular, colored geometric pattern, (say, like I'm scrolling through a forum thread where posts have alternating background colors), it kind of catches my eye. I don't think I would've ever noticed it if not for the color scheme of this forum:

I'll post some pictures within the next day and you can decide for yourself if it's a problem.

I don't really care about the viewing angles, because that's what VESA-compatible articulated arms are for. If I want to slouch back in my chair, I can just grab the monitor, pull it forward and tilt it down. :D

All that said, the monitor gets a 9 / 10 from me. I'm really satisfied with it.

Here's the picture of the non-uniformity. I selected a gray that really makes it "pop-out," so be aware that this is a "worst-case" image:

A slightly more real-world, albeit low quality, video of it. It's almost impossible to see. It just sometimes catches the eye.

Again, I love the monitor. I'd buy again.
