G-Sync ubiquitous?

its pretty clear the AMD solution is coming as soon as the Displayport 1.2a monitors hit the market. So the 1.2a monitors are on the way.

The tech implementation is different from Gsync as in it doesnt require constant communication between the monitor and the GPU so latency is a non issue. Also no expensive hardware modules needed.

If this works over displayport-DVI converter that would be awesome but anyway i look forward to seeing the displayport 1.2a coming in the Catleap 2B versions as standard with no premium.

I think if AMD isnt taking us for a ride then its iteration of this tech will be much cheaper and in no way inferior.

Spending big bucks for a TN panel Gsync GPU combo right now doesnt make sense cause adaptive sync is anyway for monitors with low refresh rates upto 30 HZ aka IPS! and well it is IPS!

I think waiting till christmas wouldnt be a bad idea.
 
The point is not how much it is going to cost YOU, but how much is it going to cost the manufacturer. FreeSync is a free thing to put on the box and spec sheet. Gsync increases costs to the manufacturer.

Unless FreeSync is magic, and will require no hardware of any kind to deal with the issues of a constant refresh rate on the monitors then yes, it shouldn't cost anything. Given how many cards are excluded from FreeSync already, the portion for gaming purposes not power saving, I just hope the ones that do support it will do it properly(given it's probably offloaded to the GPU, or who knows), and those with the cards excluded won't be intimidated by needing to buy a new GPU, and monitor in order to use FreeSync. But it's AMD, they are cheaper so it shouldn't be a big deal really for the consumer.
 
ASUS just announced that the price of the Swift will be $649 on Facebook. Thanks to BenQ I suppose! So this changes the debate quite a bit. But let's assume that it's still $800 for this debate.

I think you missed my point and your post is confusing. A typical teen does no get their parents to buy them 2000$ PC's with ROG products like Skripa claimed.
Err... we're not talking about kids. Parents who buys gaming PC's for their kids instead of consoles are probably gamers themselves, or kids with trust funds/inheritance.

There are gamers of all budgets. My argument is this monitor even at $800 is good for gamers with midrange budgets if a gamer absolutely wants a 27" 1440p monitor, as G-Sync makes a single mid-range/high-end graphics card look good without having to go to an ultra high-end graphics solution whether with a Titan or SLI. That is the point of G-Sync, to significantly reduce tearing and blurring without having a $2K worth of graphics...

With $2K worth of graphics, is G-Sync even needed for a 1440p monitor? G-Sync could probably make the Swift quite enjoyable with a single 670, which is the point of G-Sync. Having a ridiculous graphics solution makes G-Sync unnecessary. I don't ever plan on getting SLI or a Titan and yet the ROG Swift still appeals to me even at $800, which is only $200 more than the BenQ for G-Sync.

The reasons I was talking myself out of it is I also need a monitor for productivity. And I think that LG 34" ultrawide 1440p would be much more useful for work.

Now, I'm considering getting both. And I'm frigging cheap as hell...
 
I hope DisplayPort 1.3 makes it into the new Graphic Cards that are coming out at the end of this year.

Not a snowball's chance in hell. Video cards that could make it to market this year have undoubtedly already been taped out with their final design months ago. You can't just slap a new version of connectivity in at the last moment. Expect an absolute minimum of a year between finalization of 1.3 and seeing both video cards and monitors supporting it, and finalization of 1.3 has not happened yet.

As of May 30th, ASUS was predicting that this is 1 to 2 years away. So if you're shopping for a monitor this year and waiting to see if DP 1.3 models will come out soon... don't. There remains doubt whether you'll have them at the end of next year, much less this year.
 
I thought ASUS in my mind were superior to BenQ I have two of them side by side the BenQ took longer to calibrate but looks way better for games. I didn't like the BenQ at first due to eyestrain from it not being calibrated and washed out out of the box.
 
why are we discussing 1.3? that is irrelevant. 1.2a will suffice. monitors with 1.2a wont take long if you take AMDs word for it!

i didnt realise that u2414h has displayport 1.2a. been out since a few months and its ips! here on forth all dells will likely have 1.2a u2415 is up next for release.
