I can't believe I'm posting something so newbish, but I'm stumpped.

I've got myself a FX-8350 processor, Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 (Rev 4.0) mobo with the latest F2 bios.

I can't get any kind of stable overclock out of this thing. Not even 4.2ghz at a few bumps up from stock voltage.

The only thing I've been changing is the multiplier, vcore, and LLC. All power saving type settings are disables, everything else is set to auto or the stock equivalent.

Rig is watercooled, and temps never go over 105f or so. VRM's and NB hover around 100-110f under load.

At stock speeds, I can run a 24hr prime95 and memtest just fine..

What's your Vcore and LLC setting?

When you say 105F do you mean 105C or are you specifically reading F?

I'm posting from work so I don't have my notes handy, but even at 4.2 I think I had vcore all the way up to 1.4ish at one point and would immediately fail a couple cores on prime95. I played with just about ever LLC option. Normal, Auto, Medium, High, and Extreme.

High and Extreme seem to bump the vcore up beyond what I set it do, medium seems best (If I'm understanding it's function correctly.) I'm thinking it's supposed to bump up the vcore when the cpu is underload to compensate for droop.

Yeah, 105f, I have everything set to Fahrenheit.

Man I'm still not having much luck.. Either this mobo just sucks, or I got a lousy overclocker of a CPU.

On and off I've been playing with it. I'm at a 23x multiplier now with "medium" LLC. I've got the vcore up to 1.50, and Prime95 still fails at just under an hour. It's always the same Illegal Sumout on one or two cores. If I let it go with that error on one core, they rest have run fine for 8+ hours overnight.

With the medium LLC, voltage stays rock solid at 1.5 under load using hwmonitor.

All other voltages are still set to stock

I've got it runing occt now while I'm at work. We'll see if any of the graphs relate to a error. I'm also noticing the voltage readings are what with this board. 12v shows around 8.8v, etc.

have you tried reinstalling prime? Could just be a faulty install as well.

I have an 8320 and the same mother board and am running 4.6Ghz @ 1.45v, 214 x 21.5, medium LLC. I could probably play with the voltages and lower them but am lazy and my temps are fine, especially being winter.

Did you disable all the power saving options in the CPU menu? and enable HPC mode.

Yup all power saving stuff disabled, HPC enabled.

I've finally got it stable at 23x x 200 bclk, and 1.5v and medium lcc. Hovers around 110-114f under load.

I was thinking about just leaving it there for now, but I'm curious if my voltage would go further with a lower multi, but higher base clock.
