Full size DP to Mini DP

Hey everyone my brother just bought a 7970 and it has mini DP not full size DP . He has a active DP adapter with a full size connector on it. I thought that the DP to Mini DP adapter from monoprice would have been a direct conversion I guess we were wrong because we got it and it does not work thought it actually could have been bad so had them send me another nope does not work anyone else have any insight into this?

Most 7970s come with active miniDP->DVI adapter (XFX and Gigabyte being the exceptions). If your card came with one, can you try that?
