As an OC novice I seem to be misunderstanding how it all works. I have read various guides and I just seem to be missing some clue!
Example, I have an E2180 (10x200). It's quite happy at 10x300, even 10x333 with a slight voltage bump. So let's say its good for 3ghz (hopefully no-one gonna shoot me for that).
So if it will do 3ghz, why not 8x375 I think. Set Ram to DDR-750 (under its 800 rating) but "No go" it seems. Barfs!
OK let's go down in speed.Try 6x375 (2250) as that should be well within the CPU ability. Set Ram to DDR-750. "No go" again.
This happens with a E6400 and with two boards (Gigabyte GA-G33M-DS2R and Asus P5K-VM). Both mobos are supposed good clockers with reports of people getting 500FSB on them with some NB voltage increases. Both are supposed to be Wolfdale compatible so should be certs at 333FSB and I'm only looking for 375 but cannot get it.
Doesn't seem much point in getting a Wolfdale to overclock if the mobo won't run much above 333 is there? Are the Northbridges so close to their limit when running a Wolfdale at default?
Any ideas?
