so I got most of my parts ready now.. for a complete system.. now just need 2 or 3 parts..

now I just need to figure out which m/b most importantly then
cpu and processor -> then heatsink a fan.. which combo is mostly the best... counting money factor too...

I have choices of..

DFI LANPARTY UT nF3 250Gb Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250 ATX AMD Motherboard
for 111 dollars

or

SOLTEK SL-K8AN2E-GR Socket 754 NVIDIA nForce3 250Gb ATX AMD Motherboard for about 80 dollars...

they both got great reviews.. almost perfect... and same amount of reviews..

then

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Newcastle Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 754 Processor great reviews..

for about 145ish dollars

or

AMD Athlon 64 3400+ Newcastle Integrated into Chip FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 754 Processor - OEM for about 180 dollars without fan/heat sink.. got great reviews but not that much... why so cheap tho??

then the later on for the heatsink/ fan

if I get the 3400+

Thermaltake VENUS 7+ Highest Performance Cooler For AMD for about 25 dollars or

THERMALRIGHT XP-90 ALUMINUM HEATPIPE HEATSINK for about 40 dollars...

is the xp-90 worth almost twice as much?? they both got great reviews btw.. and about the same amount of reviews..

do your self a favor and dont buy socket 754.. buy socket 939

get an amd 3200 venice (the 3400 doesnt benchmark much higher)
get the dfi lanparty in the 939 s

Because it's dead. You won't be able to upgrade your CPU w/o buying a new mobo.

I usually upgrade the whole cpu/mb setup though.. I do that every 2-3 years.....

what you think?

That's what I do too. If you're going to do that it doesn't matter what socket you get.

so go for the 754 setup then? it is cheaper and supposely.. it oc better.. and it is so cool to join the s754 club :) ;)

Do what makes you feel good. :D
The upgradablity is the only big downfall. If that doesn't matter to you, go for it.

Go socket 939 and get an XP-90 @ heatsinkfactor for cheaper and a Pnaflo fan at Sidewinder.

I can get my Abit Av8 + 3200 Winny to 2.55ghz stable on stock air cooling... I wish I had some phase change shizzle.

i feel like getting 939 is like getting into sli setup... maybe I should just get everything sli.. and sli video card too...

I agree with everyone here. S939 gets you a more future-proof processor (read: dual core), PCI-Express graphics, and Dual-Channel memory. The price difference isn't much at all, and I think the overclocking potential is basically identical.
