FrozenCPU PSU lazyness

a recommendation for those of you whom are considering buying a PSU from them and having custom Molex connects added. make sure to double check the connections when you receive the unit.

i just got a PC Power and Cooling 510 Turbo Deluxe delivered from them this past Tuesday and found out that they failed to connect one of the Molex connections properly (Yellow and Red wires switched around). such came at the cost of my Lite-ON 832S Double Layer frying right after the power was switched on - didn't catch the error until it was to late. FrozenCPU was called about 10 times from 7am Pacific and no one answered until roughly 7:15am Pacific. i was told to email a character there about the issue as i would consider reimbursement for the deceased drive at the cost it was paid for last month, added warranty for the PSU and a Molex pin remover to fix the bad Molex fair, however, i have not received any reply and last i called this person had yet to show up for the day. their business hours end at 6pm Eastern and at the moment it is 5:22pm in NY..

i thought i was mad yesterday...

Thanks for the warning. see i'm kinda wary of having other pple do jobs like that for me, but for frozen cpus cost, i thought it would be worth it. now i'll second guess stuff like that. but since ive fallen in love iwht the Ultra X-connect thing, i'm not sure if i even have to think about it...maybe, maybe not...

performance-pcs.com does sleeving as well, and they have a deal going with PC Power and Cooling where you get the 5 year warranty. Since PC Power & cooling trusts them, I figure I may as well.

that PSU is a nice product indeed, however, if you purchased a new Lian-Li V1000 it won't work as the rear panel separating the Hard Drive bay from the PSU bay is about an inch away from the rear of the PSU.

i should say that i'm mostly just pissed off right now as i was in a rush to assemble my system yesterday and had this oversight not occured it would have saved me greatly as now i need to wait atleast a weekend to get the show on the road. if it weren't for this i would have had my machine up and running along with looking stellar..

yeah and they were my primary choice until i had to sit and wait for damage remedies from both Ivan and Jeanne hitting them. seriously i waited over 4 weeks to buy from them and had to go with FrozenCPU thanks to one Hurricane after another. i think the building code in FL should require steel re-enforcement for all structures. having lived through multiple 5.x+ Earthquakes in CA/OR i can't believe the carnage i see over in FL year after year yet alone knowing that they have Insurance for such damages :D

9 minutes before closing time out in NY and finally:
The credit was taken care of, you have the warranty, and you have a pin extractor on its way. I am very sorry about your dvd drive. This is a rare occurrence that this happens. Matt Cain

i will say that this seemed like a odd foul up but the wait until getting this email response certainly sparked a level of displeasure as it comes right at the buzzer and thus ordering anything from Newegg as a replacement now will still take until Monday to be delivered... atleast Matt turned up and got on the issue. if it had taken until Friday to deal with it i would have indeed been twice as irate. props to them for showing the care on the CS level and honoring my requests thanks to the debacle.

I've been looking at pre-sleeved PSUs and cases recently, but ultimately decided against it partly for this reason. It's probably foolish, since these guys have tons of experience doing this every day. I know the first time I plugged a USB block connector in the mb, I'd be wondering if they placed the right pins in the correct spot.

hmmm... would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had trouble from newegg.

I love FrozenCPU's CS. They sent me the wrong size CCFL, and wrong color CCFL after that, both times they replaced it without cost and sleeved it. =0)

It's an honest mistake, but they, at least, are fixing it.

frozencpu dpesnt sleeve the turbo cool 510 power supplies, it comes like that from PCP&C, all the 510 series come black sleeved with black molex from the factory, unless you had a diff color put on, in whcih case ill shut up :)

The Deluxe and the Express come sleeved, the standard 510 comes unsleeved.

Greetings,
When I saw this topic I just had to post. Back when modular PSUs were exclusively custom, I decided to buy an ANTEC tru power 480 from Frozencpu. I wanted it modularized and sleeved...and I paid a good price for it. Well it turns out that Antec psus suck and do not work on all systems. My MAX3 was having problems booting...basically it would not cold boot, You had to disconnect and then reconnect the atx connector everytime (save restarts). I called John over at FrozenCPU and he was gracious enough to take it back for testing. He said that it passed all tests and sent it back. Once again, I had the same problems. So I had to send it back AGAIN and finally he told me that he would swap it out for an enermax FMA 550. A much better psu. Problem is that they would not modularize it....though they did sleeve it. So what are my feelings? well, it did cost me 2.5 weeks of not having time to play with state of the art HW (at the time) and some shipping costs, but in the end I did get better PSU, though not the one I wanted. In my opinion, a fairly even trade. I really like frozencpu and I think their cust service is pretty good. I like the fact that it's people working there and not reps, people you can call by name and reach by email. I do think their sleeving prices are outrageous, and I would like to see them implement discounts for buying multiple sleeved items at a time, like fans and ccfls, cables etc.

i agree. i also think that they shouldn't charge you for a 1-year warranty.

perhaps we should petition them, as representatives of the modder's community? i know enough legal stuff (the real thing, not law&order style) to draft something like that.

That's unfortunate. I feel for you man. It scares me a bit to have that happen with a custom job. Yesterday, I called up PcP&C for a pre-sales question. Its been loosly addressed here, but I wanted their take on it.
I wanted the 510 Deluxe Express model for the 6 SATA connectors pre-done/pre-sleeved. The Express model comes with a 24 pin connector and the DFI UT nf3 250 has a 20 pin connector. The word on the forum was "as long as the board has clearance, you can use a 24 pin connector on a 20 pin mobo" I wasnt sure as if this mobo had the required clearance so I called them for a 24pin-20pin adapter. During our conversation, the pre-sales tech indicated they would do a custom sleeve job.

I'm wondering how good the quality would be.

If PC Power & Cooling does a custom sleeve job, then their warranty is still good, and in the unlikely case that a company like that fucks up they'll make good on it

I have great experiences with frozencpu. I really can't comment on their customer service, because all of my orders have been correct. I was very pleased with the sleeving on my PS.

Actually PC Power anc Cooling warranties all mods done by Performance-PCs.com for the full duration of their warranty, which is 5 years.

PS - There was a time when PSU modifications were only done by one company. Their work since has been often imitated, but never duplicated.

Well, his is such blatant hype that I hate to back it up, but I have to say the sleeved PSU I just got from performance-pcs is really beautiful.

an update. as i said i was mostly irate from the setback this would cause me but FrozenCPU came through on my requests (albeit late in the business day and thus causing myself additional worry) so in the end their CS proved of high quality. the Universal Pin remover i requested arrived the next afternoon 24 hours later. still based on this experience i shall be doing my own sleeving/molex replacing from now on (better safe than sorry). or atleast i should double check things were done right by the vendor :D. all i need is an ATX Connector/12v P4 Connector removal tool and i'm set. i'll be going back to FrozenCPU for that given their CS handling of this incident. only thing that now sucks about all this is waiting for the new DVD Double Layer to show up..

Dillusion mentioned that the Molex connectors are black by default from PCP&C. in reality PCP&C only puts on black SATA connections whereas everything else is flat white. they do, however, sleeve it all in black.

I hope it is.

I used to do all PSU mods for them :)
