Front USB and Firewire question...

Well I have an Antec case and it said in the book I should have a 8 pin which is the USB and a 6 pin which is the Firewire. Well I have a 10 pin and a 7 pin and am confused. How did you guys connect it to the motherboard?
 
Read the motherboard specifications closely, if it's a decent motherboard, it will have pinouts for the USB/Firewire on the motherboard, and you can attach the appropriate connectors from the front panel. FYI, some USB have an extra grounding wire, which is not always necessary.
 
i hear a lot about this and i really dont understand what the trouble is. all my usb and firewire cables ended in a black rectangle which plugged into the usb or firewire rectangle receptacle on my mobo. the usb rectangle even has one of its holes filled up so that you cannot put it in wrong.
 
the motherboard and case connectors arent always the same which is part of the trouble.

I took a look at the connectors on my new sonata case, and intel 875mobo.

The case looks like it has a 5x2 connector for each usb on the front,
while the mobo has a 5x2 that handles 2 usb connections. The pinouts are totally different.

On my old sonata, the front connectors were a bunch of seperate wires you just connected to the right pins on the board.

If you have a block type connector on the case, and its not the same as on the board, youll have to rearrange the wires on the connector, its a pain.
 
My lian-li has one cord with that 5x2 rectangle that handles both USB ports on the front of the case but it also has the shattered version of the rectangle as mini dongles coming off of the 5x2 so you can use either. i never really new what those things coming off of it were for, but now i know!
 
my antec sonanta doesnt give u one plug.. it splits up all the pins so if you got a wackey board, it will still work. Thanks antec :) nice to see they care about everyone.
 
Mine has the largeish rectangles and all seperater wires, exept the motherboard header is past the PCI slots towards the backplate: so no front USB :(. I also have another case with all seperate wires, did you know if you put the ground of (1) onto the ground pin of (2) windows takes a fit about the USB being wrong? Took me ages to work out what the numbers on the bits were...
 
I just put together my Antec Sonata yesterday, and all of my front USB and firewire were one connector each, which just plugged straight into my motherboard. THe manual said the firewire was supposed to be 6 wires (it was 7 one is ground) and USB was supposed to be 8 (7 wires again).
